I also have an Abit AW8, but I don't think it caused any of the problems with the installation. I tried 10.4.8 first(it was the disc), and it gave me errors, so I tried 10.4.6.

I also had the restart screen, but I attributed it to the changing of my active partition since one guide said your "computer will unusable for up to an hour" after changing the active partition. As odd as this seems, I just waited awhile, and sure enough the installation disk booted correctly. I dont think this really helps you, but from my days upon days of partition editing and Mac OS installation, I think that it has something to do with your partition configurations.

I would make sure you set your OS X partition to active before booting of the installation disk.

Oh, and I haven't found any ethernet drivers yet.
