Guest IanP
I realise there is already an "Ethernet Solutions" topic (link), but I think more people will see this in here. Mainly, if you have an on-board NIC card, this will help. Make sure you have a card that is supported. Known supported cards (courtesy wiki;osxx86project):compatnic.tiff (link to Realtek kext)Note, just because it is not here doesn't necessarily mean it won't work. Now, if your onboard card does not work, then you should do the next thing that may fix the problem-- download the 10.4.7 IONetworkingFamily kext.Link -- Direct link to fileFor some reason, I did not need the IOPCIFamily, just so you know. Replace the existing .kext in /System/Library/Extensions/. If that STILL doesn't work, you will want to try putting in a new supported card (I recommend the Intel PRO/100 or Netgear FA311, because they don't require any new drivers or whatnot). At this point, you should have an internet connection. If you don't, there is one more thing that should fix it. Go into the BIOS, and go into PCI Devices (or whatever it may be called, just get a list of your PCI devices). Under Network Interface Card (or maybe NIC or Ethernet Device), disable it. Boot back into Mac, and go to network under system preferences. If that doesn't work, I don't know what to tell you. Hope this helps someone. Ian P. If so, go to Finder>Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility. On the left, select the drive you have OS X on and then click "repair disk permissions" and reboot.
