Hello,

I am trying (and failing) to install OS X 86. When I boot up the computer with the DVD in my drive, it takes ~ 30 minutes (stopwatch timed) to get to the language select screen. If I click next, the delay between the click and the next menu is about 1 minute. Unusable.

So I tried via VMware, it runs much quicker but Disk Utlility simply won't convert my Fat32 partition to HFS+. I click on my partition, and click erase. On < 10.4.8 it would at this point say "could not read partition map" but on the "10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSE3.Defiant diskutil fix.Integrated" image (from demonoid) it goes through the process of "preparing to erase" and "mounting" and it seems to succeed, no error messages, but after clicking the partition name again I can see that infact it has done nothing. It's still FAT32.

I have two hard drives, this is being installed on the first HDD on a 25gb partition.

My specs are:

AMD 64 3200+

1 gig ram

Motherboard Name: MSI RS482M2/RX482M2 (MS-7093)

Motherboard Chipset: ATI Radeon Xpress 200 (I've heard many problems with this, could it be this chipset that is causing the problem?)

ATi Sapphire X800GTO²

This problem never occured until I installed the second hard drive, the one I am trying to install onto, so I have installed OS X before via VMWare. Now it doesn't matter what HDD I try to install onto the above problem occurs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Those all required an installed system. Luckily, however, i've managed to install it. I needed to make the partition the type "ShagOS Swap (af)" and then it would format and install.

Now I face another problem - Grub. I can't get it too boot OS X. This is my current settings for it:

title MacOSX

root (hd1,3)

makeactive

chainloader (hd1)+1

boot

however it isn't working. Here is my partition table as seen by SLED's partition manager (Ignore the fact it sees it as Linux Native):

Now I face another problem - Grub. I can't get it too boot OS X. This is my current settings for it:

I use "extended fdisk" as a bootmanager to switch between three different operating systems. Just one hint: Install "grub" directly into your linux partition. Than use "extented fdisk" and let it write itself to your "MBR". Otherwise you will no longer be able to boot into linux.

Kind regards,

Scatman

I have never used extender fdisk before, I have used grub. For this reason I'd like to use grub - if only it would work!

My current file reads:

root (hd1,2) <-----(this is correct, 1,3 is wrong)

makeactive

chainloader (hd1)+1

The error I receive from GRUB is:

Error 13: Invalid of unsupported executable format

Is there any way to check if OS X is installed correctly? Cos I had so many problems getting it installed in the first place that i wouldn't be the least bit to surprised if it hadn't gone through correctly at all.

Unfortunately I am no expert with GRUB installations and possible implications on multiboot-situations. Therefore I can not offer you a qualified piece of advice.

This is what I found on the net:

13 : Invalid or unsupported executable format. This error is returned if the kernel image being loaded is not recognized as Multiboot or one of the supported native formats (Linux zImage or bzImage, FreeBSD, or NetBSD).

What you can test to verify the installation of MAC OS is to activate the primary partion where you installed it. After that try booting it.
