dwjlivermore
Hi all, Wonder if anyone can help me out... I have a nearly fully functional 10.4.8 installation on my Asus A6VM laptop, wireless fixed by buying a cheap Broadcom Mini PCI card (was Intel 2200), the sound is still a problem, it's ICH6 with the ALC880 codec, working on internal speakers only with the Azalia kext. Graphics are QE/CI enabled at 1280x800 resolution, and the system flies! But, a major drawback at the moment is the speed the machine runs if it is booted from the battery. The processor is a 1.73GHz Centrino Intel. Speed is great with AC adapter, but painfully slow on battery. If anyone has any ideas on this, or has had more success than I on the subject of the wonderful(!) ALC880 sound, your help would be much appreciated. thanks D Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41331-slow-running-1048-if-booted-from-battery/ Share on other sites
munky
is it ok if you boot on AC and then unplug? or does it slow down as soon as you unplug? does it speed back up if you then plug back in? dwjlivermore
hi, it is fine if the ac adpater is removed one the OS is running. I have installed the powermanagement bundle and have the battery indication in the top taskbar. The problem only occurs if the machine is switched on with only battery power available. thanks for your help. Raod
I have exacly the same issue with an Asus W5A. If OS X boots without power adaptor the core is recognised at only 800 Mhz of speed and with the adaptor on OS X detects 1'73 Ghz. Unluckly I couldn´t make audio work (ALC880) and follow a pair of guides of the forum without result. Hope we'll find a solution soon. munky
anything in the BIOS for SpeedStep or similar? definitely sounds like a speedstep issue, whereby the cpu is throttling down when on battery, and not allowing itself to throttle back up under load... Raod
Hello Munky. I search in the bios for any option about PM/Speedstep and the only thing I can do with the power management is enable/disable hard disk down in suspend and a battery calibration. There's no change in the processor speed once booted (if boot at 1.73 Ghz/800Mhz remains at this speed, no matter if plug/unplug the adaptor). Thanks for the help. munky
I dont really have an answer, sadly. Was hoping that by posting more info, others may be inspired to help. Sorry! At least you have a workaround - always boot with power connected Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41331-slow-running-1048-if-booted-from-battery/#findComment-297345 Share on other sites
