alarustic
I'm trying to replace the above file as per one of Maxxuss' recommended updates for SSE2 only machines. But the file is protected. I log in as root/admin using 'su' then typing the password. But it won't let me replace this file, I always get 'permission denied'. Can anyone help? Does this file make much of an improvement? Also, would this thing run a lot better if I simply replace my CPU with one that supports SSE3 and uses the same socket size? Thanks. munky
getting a real SSE3 chip will be better in the long run, because the less patching you have to do the more compatible and stable your machine will be. certain programs are already having problems with SSE2-only machines (iTunes 7 for example). But of course patching is free, whereas CPUs cost money, so its entirely up to you. for what its worth, I sold my last PC (P4 Northwood SSE2 only, GeForce 6800 - at the time totally unsupported) to part-finance my new one, which I built to be as compatible as possible (Intel D945 board, Pentium D920, GMA950, then later ATI X1800) and it really paid off - the machine is virtually indistinguishable from a 'real' intel mac. alarustic
So it runs full speed, has no lag and is very responsive? That is good to know. Is there a list of recommended/compatible hardware available somewhere? Ideally I'd like to buy a nice fast Dell, is this an option? munky
its completely fine except it doesnt wake from sleep. not a problem given that it boots in about 20 seconds anyway, but its slightly irritating. i think it has to do with the mobo more than the gfx card. as you can see from my sig, it outperforms my MacBook Pro by a fair margin. The latest Core 2 Duo MBP's would probably beat it, but then a intel 975-based Core 2 Duo hackintosh would probably beat that... as for dell machines - i've no idea. you'd have to figure out what kind of chipset and processor the machine has. i know there were some issues with dell BIOSes and integrated graphics, but you could just use a PCI-E nvidia or ATI card. the brand of PC isnt nearly as important as the hardware thats inside it. have a look around the forum for recommendations, or check the HCL on the wiki. Mac R0cketman
Cpu - Intel or AMD - SSE3 Mobo - Prefer 945 Chipset (My is full supported and cheap too ) Ram - Atleast 1 GB (512 was painfully slow) HDD - Prefer Ide as it is supported but my board supports sata also so check the wiki P.S. : My board supports sleep also Edited February 6, 2007 by Mac R0cketman Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/41297-cg-libsystembdylib-new-processor/#findComment-295446 Share on other sites
munky
my mobo was fine with sleep when i was using the GMA950. just when i moved to the X1800 it stopped working. i think though that the same gfx card might work on a different mobo and still allow sleep. its all to do with the way the mobo reinitialises the graphics on S3 resume.
