VMWare+DAEMONTools Install Problem

Hi guys, this is my first attempt installing OS X. I am having some issues.

 

I cannot select a FAT32 partition I have created on the single hard disk that I have (using PartitionMagic) to convert to HFS+. It is not recognized by Disk Utility. The hard disk is a SATA-300 Seagate. Disk Utility shows a 4.4GB Virtual Drive or something - nothing like what I expect from this VMWare virtual machine configuration file:
