punkrockml13
I've installed OXX86 on an external hard drive via usb. the install went through fine and almost all of my hardware was supported. it booted up into the os after the install, but after a reboot, the hard drive will not boot. what am i missing here? the bios recognizes the drive, but won't boot from it again. i'm using the JAS amd.intel.sse2.sse3 dvd with the patch applied. seems to work great except for this. ive booted into osx86 before on this drive with this bios so i cant understand what the problem is. any ideas? would the chain0 option in my xp bootloader be an option? munky
i think you might need to boot from the DVD, then hit F8 to get to the bootloader and type rd=diskNsN where the N's are numbers. i think you need to explicitly tell it where to boot from. however, i dont know the numbers you need... it'l be something like rd=disk1s1 or disk1s2 or something. take a look around the forum for similar booting froim USB woes.. in fact... what you could do is boot from the DVD and open Disk Utility from the menu. You should be able to figure out the 'address' of the USB partition - it should be in the form specified above. then reboot and use that with the rd= argument. chrismix
fyi I had a similar problem my OSx86 Mac wouldn't boot either. It had worked fine, then I wanted to reinstall. I formatted the host drive whilst in Windows with MacDrive then booted from the OSX DVD and installed. After a couple of fruitless reinstalls of OSX I used Disk Utility (from boot DVD) to completely reformat and partition the drive, reinstalled OSx86 and it booted without problem. HTH. munky
yeah, i dont know why but Disk Utility got a bad name among osx86 users and i've no idea why - its always worked flawlessly for me, even under 10.4.1 i always use Disk Utility for whatever disk gimpery im doing. in fact i even have a pair of drives hooked up as a RAID mirror using GPT partitioning on my main hackintosh, and as soon as i get Leopard on there im going ZFS baby!
