hi - anyone got any ideas on this please!!???!!!??

----- first off: big thanks to deadmoo, maxxuuss, br0adband, bender12 and everyone who've put so much into this project - love yer work!! ------

my pc: dell inspiron 6000 1.73 pentium M, 768 ram, FUJITSU 80gb sata hdd ... etc ...

osx86 version: the original maklar-tiger.iso patched using v4 of bender12's .ppf ....

installs perfectly in vmware (after using disk utility to partition the disk), runs well, love it! .... cannot install natively tho - booting darwin with -v switch i get 'I/O error disk0' reported 4 times and then although disk utility *can* see the physical drive it cannot see partitions on it and cannot partition it...

installer sees no target device to install to :D

i get an immediate 'input/output error' when trying *any* operations in disk utility

i have tried deleting all primary & logical partition off the disk - even did a low level format... still no joy --- HAS ANYBODY HAD SIMILAR PROBLEMS? GOT ANY IDEAS HOW TO GET AROUND THIS PLS?

i thought maybe i could partition it first using iPartition or something, but i can't find a copy (and have no idea if it would work!) ... any/all ideas welcome! thanks

....i'll answer my own question! -

in case anyone is having the same problem here's how i got around the installer/disk utility failing to mount my hard drive.... (this is thanks to reading loads of wicked bits of other people's install problems/resolutions all over this site and others, thanks all :P )

starting point: totally blank drive, no partitions (at this point ubuntu live cd wouldn't even make a partition for me! ;[ ...??!!)

install win xp (create a partition of leaving plenty of free space) & then vmware 5

use compmgmt.msc to create a new primary partition, then format it FAT32

create a machine in vmware & use a physical disk for the HDD - select the new blank partition

boot vmware machine from osx86 cd and use disk utility (it shows both partitions now) to erase the new partition as mac os extended (journaled)

exit the install & stop the virtual machine

reboot pc and run setup from the osx86 dvd - i had to erase the disk again at this point but at least it was there!!! then... native install sorted...

what a laugh! sound worked straight away, network card isn't so happy...

nice one :lol::lol::lol:
