Hi,

I've installed my GeForce 7600GT using this method: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=natit_uni.pkg

After a few false starts I got it to work with Quartz Extreme and Core Image Support.

Yes I thought but sadly NO! I still don't appear to have Core Image.

I downloaded Quartz Composer and it crashed straight away. I open Core Image Fun House and the effects have no effect (ooh the irony).

So whilst the System Profiler announced QE/CI enabled, I fear it may be wrong.

Has anyone experienced this? Got any clues as to how I should proceed?

Specs: 10.4.8_AMS_SSE3. Asus A8nSLI-Deluxe. AMD X2 4400, 2GB RAM, POV7600GT

PS Apologies for semi-cross posting

On closer examination it is not fair to say that CI/QE are not working.

They are working in some aspects.

I can play a .qtz file using quicktime.

I can even open it in quartz composer.

If I open Quartz Composer and try to open a new window it will crash but if I open another composition and then open a new window it is alright.

In Core Image Fun House most effects do not work but some (eg stripes, dots) do appear on the background layer (they don't alter the image).

I've also had no luck getting the Core Image FreeFrame Plug Ins to work.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether this is an issue with the Graphics card, the drivers for the card or the osx installation?

It did make me wonder if this was a common issue - most people probably look at the System Profiler and if it says CI/QE enabled they would accept that. At least I would have done if I hadn't have run into these problems.

On the other hand maybe this is an isolated problem. I don't know. I'd like to fix it though!

Please help if you can.

Gavin

Hi, I have an ASUS N7600GS AGP 256MB.

I got QE/CI but also experience problems, like crashes of Core Image Fun House after 2-3 mins of use. Also the GUI is not that fast.

The most annoying of all is that scrolling in Firefox takes ages. But scrolling in safari is a bit better...

gavspav, I'm guessing you're adding effects under your picture, make sure you click the + sign next to your picture in the effect stack, not the plus at the top of the palette.

cebiti, i findthe gui very fast in CIFH running a 7600GS AGP (albatron, 256MB). Using agpgart 2.2, natit, 10.4.8 kexts and frameworks, 128M agp aperture set in bios. i've heard that CIFH crashes regularly (even on real macs), but it is a neat tech demo. my scrolling is normal in firefox too, not slow at all.

Hi zackintosh !

I performed a clean installation off the JaS 10.4.8 AMD SSE2.SSE3 PPF2 DVD and used your proposed configuration. Only difference I used the NVidia .kexts from the Extensions_disabled folder.

I got a performance boost as Xbench now measures a score up to 127 instead of 70-80 that used to measure before.

Moreover, scrolling in Firefox 1.5.0.9 UB seems normal, but not as blazingly fast as in Windows XP, which I'm used to. Especially in pages with built-in flash or .gif animation things sometimes get choppy.

Nevertheless, an improvement is better than nothing at all and the current performance finally makes the system usable.

Thanx for your suggestion !

Best regards...
