Well, after much dicking around I got everything to work. I spent a day working on the old vmware image 6 gig thing...man did that suck. I downloaded the 10.4.7 build as thats what I found. Now I see there is a 10.4.8, that includes the 8.8.1 kernel. I really want to upgrade tot his to use some of the patches and such that are out and about on these forums. I did search, but there is so much to dig through I didn't really find what I needed. I am downloading the jas.mac.os.x.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.Integrated jas file. Can I just burn this to a dvd and upgrade? I tried just upgrading via the update on download but I got a kernel panic and had to reinstall. What are your guys's thoughts to my getting up to date? Thanks...

specs

sony vaio

pentium D dual 2.0

Intel Board

sigmatel audio (this is the cause of all this needing to upgrade)

geforce 7600 (also not working)

intel onboard video GMA

thanks!!!!

You should just install off the new DVD. If you have problems installing, disable one cpu core with cpus=1. Choose the Nvidia package in customize and you will have support for your 7600. After the first boot, delete Natit if you don't use dual monitors and be sure to edit GeForce.kext, NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV40Hal.kext to show only your dev id :)

I get a continuous "coreservesd crashed". IT starts running the crashdump list right after the blue screen w/ cursor comes up. then it pops back to "dos" and just floods....It just keeps going forever and ever, and then eventually says proc: table is full. I get this problem with updating the kernel and with a fresh install of it via DVD
