I've installed from 10.4.8 AMD INTEL SSE2 SSE3 + v1p patch + defiant patch DVD, using just the AMD and nVidia options and can boot into safe mode just fine.

When I try to boot normally (without the -x flag) I get the grey apple screen, then the screen flashes a couple of times, turns off, truns on, and stays on the blue screen with no cursor.

how do I find out where the boot process has hung? system.log doesn't seem to be much help here.

same happened with the original 10.4.8 AMD INTEL SSE2 SSE3, which is why I patched it ...

ROFL i found the problem - I had an old PS2 keyboard hiding under the desk, but still plugged into the machine. disconnected it and - boom! - it booted perfectly (using -f flag for the 1st boot.) :P

anyway FYI:

i have onboard sound and ethernet working fine, 6600 card recognised and working (no CI or QE ... yet ;) ) iTunes, Mail, Safari etc all working.

DVD player doesnt like my burner (wont play or burn DVDs although they will mount) but I'm pretty sure I can fix that, Sytem Profiler reports it as "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." Will post when I've sorted it.

overall I'm a happy bunny now :D
