cyarron
I succesfully installed 10.4.6 (Jas) on my ASUS Z96J. When I try to boot my OS X partition (I am also running Windows XP on a different partition) I get a flurry of text and then it hangs up. I took a picture of the text where it hangs up. I looked on the OS86 Project and someone got a Z96J to work with 10.4.6 using GRUB. I don't know how to use GRUB and was wondering if this would solve the problem. Also, if it does fix the problem, how does one install and use GRUB? Thanks Edited January 31, 2007 by cyarron Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/40649-boot-problems-with-1046/ Share on other sites
cyarron
I talked to a friend and he said that I should update my kernel. However, I haven't the slightest inkling how to do this (I'm a newb). I have tried reinstalling OS X 3 times now and the problem persists. If anyone has some idea please let me know. At least let me know how to update the kernel so I can try my friends advice. I appriciate any help. cyarron
I tried to install 10.4.7 but unlike 10.4.6 (which lets me install but won't boot OS X from the HD after the install is done) 10.4.7 won't even begin to install. When I put the DVD in the drive and start the computer I get the option to press F8 for options and then once I let it install I imediately get a kernel panic which shows a grey screen and a message saying that I need to reboot my computer. The kernel panic says it is because there is no driver. Anyway, 10.4.7 is a no go. I still do not know what to do. The only advice I have gotten is that I should install a new kernel but I don't know where to get a new kernel nor how to install it. Any advice would be great. cyarron
Ok. So I installed 10.4.6 again only this time I only selected sse3 for Intel. The install went well and it rebooted automatically. Upon the reboot I get a screen with a grey apple and then a message in several languages telling me to reboot. I then turned the computer off and rebooted, only this time I pressed F8 and booted in safe mode/verbose (-x -v). It worked. I got to the set up menu (where it asks you about you location, keyboard and internets). I go through all the menus and when I get to the one where you sign up for a .mac account, the screen goes blank and a minute later I am back at the begining of the set up portion of the install (what country are you in). I have tried everything: unpluging my external keyboard/harddrive/mouse/etc.; selecting different countries; telling it that I have no internet. No matter what I do, once i get past the point where I select my internet, within 30 seconds it takes me back to the begining. I tried reinstalling with only the sse2 patch with the same results. WTF is going on??? As usual, ANY help is appriciated.
