Hey guys.

I am a musician and, as you can read from my signature, I have a triple boot (Tiger-XP-Vista).

I needed a good converter, and I bought one which is also a USB sound card and should work for MAC and PCs. It's the Apogee Mini-DAC USB.

The drivers of the Mini-DAC for MAC OS are here.

Well, they don't work. If I plug my Mini DAC, I can use it in Windows, but not in Tiger.

In System Profiler (Hardware/USB), I read:

Apogee MiniDAC:

Version:	0.04
Bus (mA):	500
Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
Maker: Apogee Electronics Corp.
ID product:	0x0002
ID maker:	0x0c60

In Sound I can't see any devices, though.

I found out that by using this Asio Driver, the Mini DAC works perfect. This driver, though, is in the demo version (it makes a "beep" every 30 sec). The retail version costs 60$ and, as many musicians, I am broke! :(

Do you guys think there is a way to make it work without beeps or to make the Apogee driver work, by modifying some lines of code etc.?

PLEASE DON'T READ AND GO AWAY, it is very important for me.

PS: I contacted the Apogee support team, and you know what they said? They said that their MAC Intel Computers can read it without installing any drivers. That's it. What a support service!

delete 'em, ppc drivers cannot be emulated, maybe you just have to try what the support team said, try w'out any drivers

for the other drivers... well you might check in usual places

Thanks for your reply...

Well, I have tried deleting the ppc drivers, but I have had the same results as before.

for the other drivers, I have checked everywhere, and I wonder how come nobody has them!?!

Never mind, I made it!!!!! :thumbsup_anim:

I found out it was because I had installed JaS USB Soundblaster support. That was the reason why it was not working.

Basically, I opened that pkg with Pacifist, I gave a look to the extensions it installed, then I took those extensions from the original Apple packages and re-installed them. :sorcerer:

Now every USB sound card I have works better (one works better, the other WORKS, because it didn't!).

So I suggest to all of you who don't really need that JaS USB SoundBlaster support package to use the original Apple extensions. :star_sunglasses:

PS: this Apogee converter sounds SOOOOOOOOO well!!!! :sorcerer:

Actually, you're lucky. Many people find that the USB Soundblaster patch breaks USB full stop. Happened on my first J1048 install.

Well, it broke mine too, but I fixed it right after, so that was not a problem any longer.

Next time I have to install this OS, I will definitely avoid that Soundblaster patch. Now I have more than one reason to do that! :)
