Post install problem, hanging during setup of account etc

So I have Windows XP Installed, used Acronis to create a new FAT 32 partition and installed Mac OS X to it (using a burned iso, and not vmware).

 

After installation, the computer had to reboot. I selected the "Unknown OS" from the Acronis boot loader, and loaded into OS X.

 

After a few seconds I was doing the initial setup options (such as selecting your language, keyboard setup, time, etc). For some reason, the system seemed to be lagging a bit between each step, but I didnt see the hard drive indicator going much.

 

Eventually, I get to a point where I have a blue screen, a cursor that isnt frozen, and a little black spinning pinwheel. The pinwheel isnt spinning at normal speed either, it is jumping, slowing down, stopping, speeding up for a moment, stopping again, etc. The system seems to just hang indefinately, never reaching the next point in the setup.

 

Any ideas what could be causing this? I can boot into windows ok, but every time I reboot to OS X it hangs at some point or another in setup.

I had the same problem setting up my copy of OSX 10.4.8, and it seemed to happen each time I got to the screen for internet setup. Whether I picked cable modem or built in ethernet, moving to the next page would make the screen go blue.

 

What worked for me was to select that I had no internet, and move on. That let me finish, and it should for you as well. Keep in mind though that this behavior indicates that you'll have connectivity issues once you get into OSX. For me, it meant that every time my network card obtained an IP address, things would freeze up. I still have not found a fix for that.
