MistahG
I am considering purchasing a macbook (2GHz Core 2 Duo). I am coming from a windows machine which has a US Robotics Sportster serial port modem and a Umax Astra 600p scanner. How do I get these peripherals to work with the macbook? Will they work if I get usb to serial and usb to parallel port adapters? Which ones specifically work reliably? I need to be able to send and receive faxes and scan flawlessly. Will they work thru a usb hub? I am trying to avoid purchasing new peripherals at this point. Thanks in advance Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39706-using-serial-and-parallel-port-devices-on-macbook/ Share on other sites

A Nonny Moose
It's probably easier to purchase a USB modem (which from Apple is $49) than it is to try and adapt. macgirl
Other USB modems will do it too. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39706-using-serial-and-parallel-port-devices-on-macbook/#findComment-283320 Share on other sites
U.C.
Seriously th speed on a old crappy serial modem is far far better than the one provided by the newer PCI/USB card solutions. I had a unlimited Dial up connection two years back, and with a serial modem, my pings on q3 were like 100 and with a normal PCI modem were like 150-200. Also I used to get actual 8KBps dl's.
