danielharker
Okay, so I guess I did something kind of stupid. I wanted to make it so that when I pressed macOSX on bootup of my computer, that it would automatically boot up the mac OSX partition. I tried a couple of tutorials using the boot.plist, but it didn't seem to work. One day, I opened up the preferences panel, and went to the "start up" disk icon. I noticed that the current disk that was selected was my windows XP partition. So logically in my mind I thought. I'll just select the MAC OSX partition, and then I won't have to keep clicking sub menus in the boot up menu, it'll just automatically boot up OSX. So, I rebooted, and got the HFS+ error! I about died! My system restore partition wouldn't even work, because the whole master boot record had died! Luckily, I had windows XP CD on hand, re-installed that on the old partition, and it fixed the master boot record. I quickly put chain0 back into the boot.ini, but upon reboot, when I select OSX I get errors! Is there anyway I can restore my old boot sector for just the OSX parition? The master boot record had been restored... How do I restore my boot record for osx? If I do restore it, will it still be trying to use the osx disk as the startup disk since I set it that way in the prefrences? Will that be problematic? Thank you so much for the help! SiN
Sorry to jump on you're thread but I have and almost similar problem. The only way I could boot into osx is with startup disk.If I try to set up my osx partition as active I get an mbr error boot from floppy. But I can boot into my win partiotion just find. I also tried chain0 on the win boot loader but I get the chain0 error. The os selector from acronis just sends me to a screen with a cursor and stays there. I would like to know how to rewrite my boot sector for my osx partition also. thanks Ok so I think I found my problem. I think it's the hd utility bug since I used Jas 10.4.8 to install. Here's the link to show how to patch it if you used the 10.4.8 version. http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38125 I haven't tried it yet since I'm at work. I let you if it works. DanielHarker this might work for you if you used the same install. specs JaS 10.4.8 amd64 venice with sse3 1 gig ram 200g sata nividia 6600 asus mb via chipset Edited January 22, 2007 by SiN Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/39523-restoring-the-boot-sector/#findComment-281798 Share on other sites
