I gained sound and firewire, but lost networking.

I've tried the the instructions here for the realtek:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=35380

and i followed these instructions here for the broadcom:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=23684

I can see by the mac address that my wifi card is being detected as a built-in ethernet card.

And I guess when OSX thinks its a regular nic and not a wifi nic, it doesnt give you any wifi options

like wep or wpa etc. So it wont get an ip address.

Ive edited the Info files to include the device IDs.

What else can i do? is there a config file for wifi nics like there are regular nics?

the only thing that shows up in my NetworkInterfaces.plist file are the one nic (which is actually a wifi card) and

the firewire card which shows up under networking as well for some reason.

does wifi have its own file or should it be in this file as well? do i need to add something?

I have also downloaded the driver pack found here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38845

and nothing worked for me except the Battery Mgmt driver. My sound already worked, and for the wifi, i get the icon

in the upper right corner, but it says AirPort: Not Configured

This was working with my Goatsec 10.4.6 install before i wiped and reinstalled with Jas.

The wifi got detected as an airport card and everything worked flawlessly. Is there something I can

use on that DVD to get this working? Like bring over some of the kext files or something? which ones would i need

to bring over if thats the case?

Any help would be great!

Thanks for a great forum! :hysterical:

EDIT:

I did seem to get this at boot now:

pci14e4,4318: family specific matching fails

wl0: Broadcom BCM4318 802.11 Wireless Controller

AirPort_Brcm43xx: Ethernet address 00:14:a5:6a:3d:38

which is the correct mac address now (somehow i got the realtek nic in the wrong kext)

but i still have no wireless options except the icon by the clock that says the airport card is not configured.

And the wireless light on my laptop is not on, which it normally is when the wireless is working.

any ideas?

I Fixed it. I renamed the en0 to en1 and the wireless started working, but my realtek card card is not listed in the

NetworkInterfaces.plist file, there is no entry, but the kext from what i can tell is loaded (says already loaded when i try)

I opened another thread here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=39529 asking for someone to post

their NetworkInterfaces.plist file from a working realtek card and i think that will fix my problem once i get that entry

for that card on my machine. Its strange how there was only the one card and the firewire listed in that file and it didnt

detect it like it did in .6

If anyone else has this problem I hope it sheds some light for them. I have an hp dv8135nr. When i get the ethernet nic

to work the machine will almost be perfect aside from the 200m video card (no qe/ci) and the texas instruments xx21 pcmcia

slot, everything else seems to work.
