covenant
So.... I am a noob when it comes to OSX, though I've experience with Linux in the past. I did manage to get installed though, after some trial and error. The newest JAS disc did not work for me - it says waiting on root device after it sees my SATA drives (even though I'm installing to a PATA drive) ... I managed to get installed with a copy of 10.4.8 which is "unknown", that is, my dad gave it to me and said "this is the one that everyone says works", except he has no clue who put it together or anything! But it did work. I had to hunt down Callisto for my x850xt - since the website for Callisto is missing in action, I managed to find Callisto 008 on eMule. So now, I'm up and running with my Opteron 170, DFI Lanparty NF4 Ultra D. Sound and Network are working. I did have to switch over to the Marvell Yukon port rather than the nForce4 port (the Lanparty has dual lan, one on each controller), but it works now. I'm not sure how to test to see if I have more than two channels on the sound, however. Installed on PATA... OSX sees and reads my SATA drives once booted up, but I'm afraid to do much on them since I've read that there is data corruption even if you can get them visible? As for after-install tweaking.... How would I know if I have QE/CI, what is this "mouse tearing" issue I hear about? How would I know if I have it? Finally, are there any software updates that must be avoided - would break the install, for example? Thanks!
