frizbot
I suggest not going cheap. I've seen the generic realtek type cards drop packets under load, and many of the gigabit ones aren't capable of using jumbo frames. Prices on the quality cards are reasonable, while I seem to get dozens of the generic cards for free. Here's the HCL for 10.4.8. Other system versions are available- http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.ph..._.28Ethernet.29 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38864-which-cheap-gigabit-ethernet-card-will-work/#findComment-277023 Share on other sites

frizbot
Hah, nice. Go with the realtek one then ;-). The other HCLs might give more various ethernet cards. Of course there's also the sticky "What network cards work (native compatibility) at- http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=258 Check out this topic- http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=38746 I'm trying to get suggestions about hardware in general that is the most compatible with OS X. So far the suggestions are the GMA950 and the GeForce 7300GT for videocards, and the Intel D945GTPLR motherboard. I noticed theres a Intel 1000mbit card out thats like $39, the pro 1000 but its not the GT one thats listed in the HCL... im sure the chipset must still be supported though? I saw your post about the native hardware... believe me, i read it and i hope you compile a good list of NATIVE stuff as I plan on soon building another box that i want from the ground up to run os X as native as an apple product (but even faster ) No crazy patching/hacking needed. Cheers. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38864-which-cheap-gigabit-ethernet-card-will-work/#findComment-277458 Share on other sites
frizbot
I have the Intel Pro/1000 GT in a G4. Thats gigabit ethernet, quality Intel chipset with supported checksum offloading, natively working in OS X for PPC. I'd think it would work in osx86 but it hasn't been tested. Check the model number on the one you found, it might still be the GT but just missing that in the name (I've not heard of the "Pro/1000"). With the random show-stopper problems I've had with osx86, I think that selecting components specifically for compatibility is the best way to go.
