John the Geek
AppleInsider is reporting that Apple plans on imposing a $4.99 fee to all current Core 2 Duo Mac owners to "upgrade" their existing 802.11n hardware if they want to use the card with non-Apple 802.11n access points. Appearantly there is a law that prohibits Apple from giving away an unadvertised new features on existing products. They have to charge for this in order to remain legal. Buyers of Apple's new Airport base station will not incur this fee, because buying the new base station includes this retroactive unlocker as part of the purchase. Who makes these laws?
