Reso
Hi all I'm new here, but I think I'm going to need this site a couple of times, since I'm a noob in installing and modifiing x86 systems ! I tried a few times tot install the x86 MAC OS X (10.4.8; Jas' image) on my Inspiron 6400. Everything goes well, but after the installation, it gives the blank screen with the Grey Apple-logo centered, but then it seems to be crashing, cause it gives a screen with black and white vertical lines. I installed the 10.4.3 version a couple of weeks ago, and that worked fine except that the video-mode was locked and had no sound and wireless etc... I tought that the 10.4.8 was better for me because of the ATI X1400 fix? I used "costumized" install, and selected the Intel fix, the X1400 fix and the laptop power management fix... This is my system profile: DELL Inspiron 6400 Intel Core Duo Processor @1,66 GHz ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 (256 MB) 1024 MB RAM Can somebody help me please? Thanks a lot! Sven from Belgium (that explaines my bad english! ) Edited January 15, 2007 by Reso Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38776-boot-fails-on-inspiron-6400/ Share on other sites
Reso
Booted with the "error-report" modus on, and it said: VID: Family Specific Matching Failed Isn't this error related to my Video Card? Can anyone help? Already installed 7 times today  Maybe also good to know, when I install the 10.4.4 and it boots completely, and I install the X1x00 driver from my 10.4.8 DVD, the system crashes again after reboot... Sven from Belgium (that explaines my bad english! ) I have also a Inspiron 6400 with x1400 and installed JAS 10.4.8. Here's what I did: - Install 10.4.8 DVD with the COMBO Update and the semthex kernel - nothing else - the ATI driver don't work. - Then I installed "ATIScript.z0rz.v0.2.zip" from http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36886 - Here you have to do "sudo ./builddoe.sh 71 45" to build the driver - and then "sudo ./doe.sh none 1280x1024x32 1 1" to install it - after this you will get an 1024x768 res on your internal display or a 1280x1024 on an external monitor - Then edit the /System/Library/Extensions/ATIRadeonX1000.kext/Contents/Info.plist and search for IOPCIMatch. In the following line, I've changed the 0x71461002 into 0x71451002 (the ID of the x1400). - Do a "diskutil repairPermissions /" and reboot - After this, you will have CI/QE Support. - I have not managed to get my display working with 1280x800, nor get a dual-screen. Maybe someday... - The WLAN will not work - at the moment, so I bought a Belkin USB WLAN Adapter (28 €) and it worked with some patches. - The sound will not be recognized, but I use Harman Kardon Soundsticks via USB - so I don't need a soundcard. I hope this will help. Bye Rob Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38776-boot-fails-on-inspiron-6400/#findComment-276649 Share on other sites
