kess
Hello, I'm curious if it's worth it to upgrade from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8. I have heard that performance has been increased, but I'm not sure if it's worth it. I have SSE2 and a Radeon card (so Titan/Natit doesn't really matter). Does 10.4.8 imporve overall performance significantly? Thanks. thestevo
Without knowing what ATA controllers you have and subsequently what benefits might arise from that, I would say that your gain in upgrading would be negligible for now. It may be faster, but I don't imagine it would be a huge amount. Still, with many hardware compatibility breakthroughs coming with the requirement of the new kernel, you might find it beneficial to upgrade just for the sake of not having to do it later - and if there is a significant performance increase you will have the benefit of it. So bottom line, I don't really think you need to. kess
Does ATA have something to do with hard drives and disc drives? I looked at "ATA" in System Profiler and it had my drives and such. I haven't had any problems with those.. OS X even lets me burn things with my DVD drive. I suppose if I pick up an nvidia card I'll upgrade for Titan/Natit. If there's nothing else that would improve, though, then I'll stick with 10.4.6. Thanks for the help.
