I've got about 4 burns of the new install (Jas 10.4.8), I reburned it thinking there was an i/o error during the previous burn or something of the sort. But much to my dismay, all of the burns were legit. After reading for hours on end day after day, I've come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to modify at least one of the kext files on the DVD in order to get the system to actually see my laptop's harddrive. I can't install on and invisible hardrive, now can I?

Well, I've modified a few kexts before, but that was on my old laptop (which isn't around at the moment) and that OSX86 installation didn't have this HD problem. This system has Linux installed, no XP (I've removed the plague), and I'm trying to get OSX86 installed in place of XP. This laptop is to be purely Linux and OSX86, yet affordable for me.

I do have access to a real mac, but it's at my brothers house, and he's rarely home.

now that that's all out of the way...

Is there any way to modify kext files on the dvd without having an OSX system around? I know Linux can see JFS/HFS, but bootable dvds of the HFS type are quite alien to me. I'm used to ISO9660 and linux filesystems (ext2,ext3,reiserfs,etc..)

If this cannot be done, I'm willing to go hunt my brother down for use of his mac one night.

Any help would be much appreciated.
