I'm totally new to this. My experiences with OSX is on our Mac g5. I hav the following system:

Dell Dimension 4500 with 845 chipset an 2.53mhz Pentium 4 (SSE2)

1 Gig Ram

Nvidia 6800gt AGP 256meg

2 80gig ata HD - (1 NTFS for with my current Win xp Home, 1 NTFS dedicated for osx86)

1 250 gig HD ATA NTFS

1 DVD+RW (ATA)

1 250 gig usb2 HD

I have downloaded the Marklar-tiger.dmg & converted to iso (I got the correct chksum but the filesize is only 4,192,384).

My problem here is that every download of the marklar-tiger-patch-release1.rar that I have made has been unable to extract a ppf file. Now I am downloading three torrents: 1. tiger-x86.tar.bz2 2. jas_10_4_8_amd_intel_sse2_sse3_(demonoid).torrent and ((Demonoid))-All_things_needed_to_install_mac_os_osx86_including_ilife06_iwork06_and_jam_pack

torrent. So, am I going at this the right way. I would prefer to use an install dvd than copying an img file to the HD. Are any of these files going to work? or should I continue to pursue finding the marklar....rar file that might work? Am I going to face a hardware problem?

Thanks for any advise you can give me, I want to do this primarly as a learning experience (I can always buy a new Mac).

You have a NTFS partition to dedicate to OS X?

I've been out of the loop for a long time, but as far as I know only one OS will install to NTFS... and it is evil. Of course, this is not your immediate problem. Like frenchie said, stick with the JaS install DVD. Couldn't be easier.

Thanks for the information, I'll keep you inform of my progress (my wife thinks that I should stop waisting my time and go ahead and buy the real thing, what does she knows!). As for the OSX HD format, that is its current format, my intent was that once I obtain the proper intallation diskette, I would go ahead and format the HD as Fat32 and run the installation process. In addition, I have a spare 8gig Fat 32 hd that I can use if the only source for osx86 that I get is an image file.
