cdrz
Hey all, I'm new to the MAC community and came across this fantastic site. I installed OSX86 10.4.7 on my Intel laptop and the installation went fine. After the installation completed the machine said it required a reboot, however during the boot process it seems to be stuck at the loading screen. I can see the Apple logo in the middle, along with, for lack of better reference, the no-smoking symbol. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be? Or better yet, how do I boot with verbose mode enabled? The online docs I found said hold Control - V, however I'm not quite sure what the Control key is on a regular Windows keyboard. Thanks for your time and help. -Scott Edited January 11, 2007 by cdrz Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38338-installed-fine-stuck-at-apple-loading-screen/ Share on other sites

If so, this is what I used as well to install os x onto my laptop. The first time, I forgot to click on "Customize" during the install process. Make sure you clicked "Customize" and select the appropriate patches for your machine. This fixed my problem, hopefully it fixes yours! cdrz
I used JAS' image and took the default route. I'm trying again now, this time I'll select customize and see what happpens. Thanks a lot for the response, I appreciate the help. cdrz
She's still installing now but I'll respond with my results. I'm curious to know what all is included with the 'addons' package that was listed under the customize screen and why it wasn't selected by default. X11 for OSX was also listed as an optional addon. X11 for OSX was also listed as an optional addon. The addons include patches and fixes to allow OS X to run on SSE2 and/or SSE3 machines of both Intel and AMD flavors. If you have an Intel based machine with only SSE2, you would want to install the patches for Intel SSE2 for example. Let me know what your system specs are and which patches you did check. cdrz
It just finished and I tried booting however I don't see a GUI. It looks like it attempting to launch it but gets stuck at a screen with black and white vertacle lines. I guess I'll try again except this time I'll include X11. If that fails the only remaining option would be to choose X11 and not JAS' addons. cdrz
This particular laptop is an IBM Thinkpad T40, Intel P4 1.5Ghz. On a side note I've pulled down the 10.4.8 iso which I plan on putting on my new AMD dual core X2 3800. It has a Radeon x1950Pro. The last version I tried had trouble detecting my SATA drive. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it... one machine at a time. Yenzula22
Similar problem: I just installed the JaS 10.4.7 image (Intel/SSE3 only) on my Dell laptop. The install went well, but on the first reboot the system progressed through the Apple loading screen and hung on a blank white screen. The system does not reboot itself, but stays indefinitely on a blank screen. The hard drive is not being accessed at any point during this time. I got OSX86 to boot to this point only after reconfiguring my hard drive (I am booting XP). Partition 1 is FAT32 and is my XP system volume, Partition 2 is NTFS, and disk0s3 contains the OSX86 install. It at least boots into darwin and loads the Apple now, but cannot get past this white screen. Any help would be appreciated... Specs: Dell Inspiron 9100 Pentium 4 HT @ 2.8gHz (SSE2, SSE3) 512 MB RAM 80GB Hard Drive; disk0s1: FAT32 windows root, disk0s2: NTFS primary, disk0s3: OSX (hopefully ) ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 (64 MB) SigmaTEL audio ...and so on Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38338-installed-fine-stuck-at-apple-loading-screen/#findComment-276055 Share on other sites

PRSubway
I had this same problem with the vertical lines/white screen (mine changed each time i tried it), but my friend who is good with Unix solved it by putting "-s" in the boot options before booting OSX. He then deleted a file from the system/library/extensions folder and rebooted. I cant remember which file it was. hes coming over tomorrow again so I'll get him to put the code here and see if I can't help you all out. but he found the solution on these forums somewhere himself so if you cant wait about 16 hours for a solution just see if you can find something else about it. also this of course could just be a solution for my computer. Yenzula22
Hmm, hope a solution comes out of that. Possibilities... Install succeeds but on reboot machine reaches black apple against gray background screen with petal timer animation then blank screen AND light on monitor switch goes green to orange as if suspended/sleep. Apparently this guy was able to fix the problem by removing his radeon 7500 and enabling onboard Intel GMA. Could it be a graphics issue? PRSubway
my problem was definitely a graphics issue. we had to remove a kext file that dealt with the 9700 patch i think. once again i'll know later today after my friend comes over. RaduKing
how do you enable/disable a driver when you're not even able to get to a Terminal ?!? PRSubway
type -s in the boot loader (that spot where you have the option of typing -v to run diagnostic boot.) -s lets you modify files before an actual boot. Yenzula22
I'm confused too. It may be an issue of stupidity, but I can't figure out how to access the terminal (except when booting from the install DVD). The "Loading Darwin" text comes up and it goes straight to the gray Apple and the petal timer...no place to type boot options and no opportunity to hit F8 to access any sort of prompt. I think I'm doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what. PRSubway
hmm...thats weird i get a chance to hit f8 for boot options. could it be that we're not running the same install method (i.e. im running JaS 10.4.8 kernel 8.8.1)? Yenzula22
Yeahhh. Turns out it was a problem of stupidity, I think...at any rate I installed again under VMware and now I have the abiility to access the boot option screen. (I only have about half a second to hit F8, though.) Woohoo. At any rate, the vmware install fixed a separate, larger problem I had (unrelated to the topic of the post). Whenever I installed normally, the OSX install would delete my partition table. In rebuilding it with Partition Table Doctor (or Acronis, for that matter), the OSX partition would be lost. Anyway, that problem fixed with VMware. And stuck at the white screen again. PRSubway
my friend told me the code, it was just deleting natit (which i think is automatically disabled if you have ppf1 of jas 10.4.8) ok if you boot with -s in the bootloader option, wait till the white texts stops scrolling and type this stuff: type this first to initialize editing files /sbin/mount -uw / be sure to back up your extensions before you do this just incase it doesnt fix your problem and you end up needing natit for some reason. sudo cp -R /System/Library/Extensions /System/Library/ExtensionsBackup then do this rm /System/Library/Extensions/Natit.kext i hope that works. now that i know the code i have a feeling it will only work for very specific cases, such as people with jas 10.4.8 with titan. oh well good luck. Yenzula22
yeah, it didn't work -- I never installed natit to begin with, apparently. idk...
