hi,

i upgraded from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8 using Jas's intel SSE2 combo update with semthex's kernel beta9. the sse2 dvd's cause kernel panic for me. after upgrading, i discovered that Mail doesn't work properly. it can receive mails, but it can't send them and it can't save drafts either. once i try to send an email or save a draft and then want to quit, it just stays there doing nothing as if waiting for something and the quit menu option becomes grayed out, and i end up force-quitting mail.

console log has this message whenever this happens...

2007-01-11 18:58:18.192 Mail[303] *** -[MessageWriter setEncodingHint:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x8709550]
2007-01-11 18:58:18.192 Mail[303] Exception raised during monitored invocation of _synchronouslyAppendMessageToOutboxWithContents:lastDraftID:, exception: *** -[MessageWriter setEncodingHint:]: selector not recognized [self = 0x8709550]

my version of Mail shows as "Version 2.1.1 (752.3/749.3)". i tried to copy Mail.app that comes with Apple's 10.4.8 combo update as well as jas's 10.4.7 update package, as i thought maybe my version got mixed up since i upgraded from 10.4.6, but i get them same results.

is this related to any framework that i need to downgrade or upgrade maybe ?

decided to remove all traces of Mail using AppZapper and reinstalled from the 10.4.6 DVD and it worked fine. then used pacifist to extract the version that came with Jas's 10.4.7 update and it worked ok too. i guess as long as it works i'm happy, though i might explore a bit further to see if the new mail app depends on any particular frameworks that got it screwed up.

correction: 10.4.7 didn't work. so uninstalled again and reinstalled the 10.4.6 version. it works now.
