Hi, JaS:

First of all, thanks for you efforts. As you may know, Dell laptop users have incurred many problems with OS X, which I believe is Dell uses low end hardware and enhance performance by ssoftware. My spec is:

Dell Laptop Inspiron E1405/640M Bios A08

T5600 Core 2 Duo

Intel Wireless 3945ABG/Broadcom440x 10/1000

1GB RAM

GMA950

Sigmatel9200

On you 10.4.7, everything works fine except no sound and have to put cpus=1 in boot list. System profiler shows 256 shared VRAM. I have tried your newest 10.4.8 + ppf and incurred below problems:

1. The installation can only run a clean install and cannot upgrade, otherwise will fail when

applying the kernel patch;

2. Only only one core;

3. GMA950 kext shows only 64MB shared VRAM in system profiler;

4. Ethernet cannot work even replace the ionetworkfamily with 10.4.7 version

I am eager to get both cores supported because I find out that applications like Parallels rely on dual core to have full function. I have nce successfully upgrade to 10.4.8 with eGwan easy installer but still only one core, have to replace the network kext with 10.4.7 one and Parallels very slow with the 10.4.8 GMA950 patch.

As I find out many Dell laptop users have same problems, so could you please find out the reasons for us?
