jfox95
Hey, just installed 10.4.8 - full from scratch installation. Don't know exactly which one: it said OSX 10.4.8 AMD SSE3 Full (close to that) it was 2.3gb rar. I had troubles the first install - "still waiting for root device" gave me problems until I finally got the drive to primary master. Got that, it installs fine - black screen first boot. I turn off, turn on again, I got a screen this time, but it was upside down. I did software update (i dont know why) while upside down and it restarted. Did graphics mode 1440x900 on that boot and it flipped the screen - everything was fine except the software update crashed finder. So I do fresh install, getting black screen every boot this time. It seemed to hit or miss the first time. Some of the messages that come up during boot say that titan found my vid card (nvidia 7300 gs) and all was set and to cross fingers. before that it also has some dialouge messages about intiut (spelling?) that found my card model also. anything else I can do except keep restarting and hoping for it to work? Guest bikedude880
Reboot and pass these arguments at the bootloader: -v -f That will let you see what's loading and force the kextcache and mkext to be rebuilt (which should fix your "half-the-screen problem. It fixes it for me every time.) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/38043-black-screen-after-1048-with-titan/#findComment-271188 Share on other sites
jfox95
thanks, good to know if it happens again, but guess what? it works now haha. perfectly. I tried rebooting on the crt - nothing. switched back lcd, did Graphics mode 1440x900, came up full screen at a diff res, but was able to change to 1440x900 - can see the cursor and all. tried rebooting without doing anything, went straight to 1440x900. weird - but works fine now. sound and ethernet work fine so far. next question: is it safe to do the other software updates for itunes, quicktime and ichat? just dont do the 2 secruity updates? Guest bikedude880
They (iTunes, Quicktime, iChat) are perfectly safe on SSE3, not sure about SSE2. Sec. Update 2006-007 is safe on Intel with the latest kernel, but needs to be patched for AMD. Not sure about Sec. Update 2006-008.
