yelow
Can I safely remove this kext from /System/Library/Extensions into a different folder (or delete it?) I have 10.4.7 JaS installed, with AMD64 patches. My motherboard is an nForce4 board, and I don't think I have VIA anything on it. Is this a stock kext that's conflicting with new ATA kexts I've installed with the 10.4.7 JaS installer? thestevo
Theoretically, if you do have an nForce4 board you should be able to remove the AppleVIAATA.kext Still, it should not be in conflict with other kexts for your ATA controller. If you are using a SATA drive, then your problem might be explained by the fact that the driver for nForce4 SATA is not fully functional or stable. Sounds like bugs are still being found with that driver. However, I would recommend that you move to the new kernel. Primarily because it makes for the best compatibility. Also, you never know if a driver will be released that requires the new kernel.
