still can't install the SATA drive...

it's connected in the mobo via the red cable and in bios its set to "IDE OPERATING MODE (not RAID)

in bios also: PROMISE CONTROLLER: enabled

and there is a 3rd choise for SATA : ENABLE SATA BOOTROM

if i "enable" this ,i cant see the disK not either in XP

maybe all this time it fuctions as PATA and not SATA in my XP?

what about the osx86 ,why cant see the sata?

my mobo is fully supported

can you plz make it a little more simple?

you say that in bios i should use RAID mode but everybody says to use IDE mode in order to OSX see it

in bios i have 3 options for the SATA

enable SATA bootrom (enabled)

enable promise controller (enabled)

operating mode :IDE operating mode (there are 2 modes=IDE and RAID)

if i choose with RAID mode not either XP cannot see the SATA drive

the drive is a WD 300GB SATA DISK

in XP device manager its called as SCSI Disk Drive but for sure its not a SCSI!

are the SATA called SCSI?

how should it be recognized in XP ,i know a lot about Windows etc but not about SATA stuff

its connected with the RED cable via the SATA controller in the motherboard

what is wrong...?

i really cannot understand all this stuff with SATA and RAID ,im old school's with IDE disks and IDE cables

so plz help to solve this ,where is the mistake?

hehehe :thumbsup_anim:

i did it ofcourse

i knew that is a "connection" problem and not a problem with my OSX etc etc

so what was wrong...?

you won't blv it

i was too lazy to open the tower and look at my mobo but when i opened it i noticed something not good

the cable that connects the SATA disk to the mobo is RED and there were 2 ports there that fits the cable in RED colour so when i bought the DISK i connected the cable there

i looked closer and i noticed that the ports had the label "SATA RAID 1 and 2" hmmmm

then i found the correct (same size) ports but in black with the label only "SATA 1 and 2"

ofcourse i knew when i connected the cable there that its gonna work

then i booted to bios and removed the promise controler cause i noticed than now the promise check says" nothing..no bios"

now i have real SATA ,i knew all this time that it was not SATA in XP either

problem solved ,and thankz me very much for my help

ofcourse nooffence to you,it would be difficult to imagine this

(i think only MINE asus a8v-deluxe has red colour for SATA RAID port and if the cable also is RED it can confuse you and connect it wrong ..it should be black as i saw in many photos)

  • 2 years later...

hey! you are not alone! I got the same problem. OSX install couldn´t see my disk and I decided to have a look inside... wrong connector...

Tested in ASUS K8V SE deluxe

Bios adjustments:

On board SATA controller [enable]

On board PROMISE controller [disable]

now leopard detects your SATA drive.
