ghola
I’m completely new to anything Mac so bare with me. My 1st time experience with a Mac OS is this test. I thought I’d post this to help any “Noobs” like myself to Mac OsX Jas installs on a PC/Laptop x86. No chain0, No Darwin, No Acronis boot disc, they just didn’t play well together for me. It came to this after so many problematic duel boot installs. I scoured forums and sites for these tidbits of info and put them together, THANK YOU very much too previous helpers. ( I may have missed a few steps but the important ones are here) Specs: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Review-Toshib...-F20.761.0.html * C: (partition 1) 20,002.8 MB - primary –Win XP as main OS * MAC (partition 2) 9,993.5 MB - primary -Mac Jas OSX 10.4.7 * D: (partition 3) 20,253.8 MB - primary -Vista Ultimate * E: (partition 4) 6,510.7 MB - logical –Win XP secondary (If XP-MAC-Vista fails me I have this to restore images fast, as well as other uses) * F: (partition 5) 38,538.7 MB - logical (this partition can be any size) Vista was the last installed OS and the Active primary partition when I made my images from one of the XP installs, if placing these images on a new HD you should make sure partition 3 is the active primary and that the partitions are as big or bigger then the original partitions they were imaged from.(<-untested theory) Ready to install OSX go to cmd prompt (Windows XP: start button, run, cmd) 1. diskpart 2. select disk 0 3. create partition id=AF 4. select partition 3 5. active 6. shut down windows Method/Apps used: Hiren's Boot CD 8.7, Partition Magic, Nero, -Install Win XP or have it already installed and make a 8-10GB fat32 partition for Mac OsX with windows while installing or partition magic later on; the rest of the HD is BLANK. Apps good to install for later use on your Win XP C: drive are Partition Magic and Nero or apps that accomplish the same feat. type in cmd prompt(In Windows XP: start button, run, cmd): 1. diskpart 2. select disk 0 3. create partition id=AF 4. select partition 2 5. active 6. shut down windows and boot to OSX Jas disc -Install OSX Jas 10.4.7 or what ever you want, erase the fat32 partition to HFS Journaled, you can then go to Terminal and check to see if partition 2 is still active: 1. diskutil list 2. fdisk -e /dev/rdisk0 3. p 4. (Thats all you should have to do, an * should be next to partition 2. - see below if its not) 5. f 2 6. write 7. y 8. exit (then you can close Terminal) Continue to install OsX, make sure you select the correct Patch OPTIONS from the drop down by clicking on the arrows on the left (I selected [X11] [Jas patches, Intel SSe2, Wireless]) then installed. After the reboot I removed the DVD and booted to hard drive, the OS doesn't boot. No surprise there and not a problem! -Now put in Hiren's boot CD 8.7 Start Bootcd. Select Partition tools and select eXtended Fdisk. Use eXtended Fdisk(in partitioning tools I think, its the 1st option anyway)to change second partition ID to AF (this won't destroy any data in the partition, only change the ID). Install eXtended Fdisk Boot Manager and create entries for First Partition with your preferred name (eg. XP), then create the second entry for second partition with another preferred name (eg. OSX). Customize the menu too auto select Os for your boot manager (select 5 seconds and to auto-boot XP if nothing selected) F3 to save all, select yes. When exiting eXtended Fdisk. Now you have a boot menu for any Os's you have installed, now feel free to add more OS's using this method and if you make a mistake restore image. Never add even the slightest Software or Updates without an IMAGE made, unless you like to reinstall things *looks at Mac OsX and Vista with mean eyes*. Now I just need help with getting drivers for my laptop and how to install them. tongue.gif This post has been edited by ghola: Yesterday, 10:09 PM Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/37515-multiboot-1047/ Share on other sites
