Starting with a B&W G3 with a working Jaguar installation, I swapped out the HDD and installed a new one. Booted the Jaguar install disc, partitioned with Disk Manager, and completed the install process for disc one error free. It reboots, shows the Apple logo, but before the circular hash marks emerge it hangs with horizontal snowy lines. The lines don't cover the whole screen.. just parts of it, with the logo still apparent.

When I reconnect the original HDD, no problems. So open firmware is fine. But every time I install Jaguar on the new drive, same result. Sometimes I install all the options, and other times just the base package.

Ideas?

I only want to get Jaguar working enough to install Xpostfacto, so I can do a clean (unsupported) Tiger install.

UPDATE: Mac OS 9.2 installs just fine. Would a KVM switch cause OS/X to do this? Perhaps it's heavily dependant on PnP to install the right monitor.
