I just have an idle question regarding some new and unexpected behavior when I install OS X.

A few months ago, I managed to finally get 10.4.6 installed which actually worked fine, but then tragedy struck!

I had to send my laptop in for repair because of the backlight malfunctioning and, in the process, the motherboard was replaced.

So now that I have it back and OS X reinstalled (damn system restore), every few seconds it will go into sleep mode.

The only thing that was different was the new motherboard and backlight connector and the inclusion of a broadcom wireless chip to get wireless working.

I'm thinking it might be the older BIOS on the motherboard because the update lists a fix as a modification of the operating temperature (which, in reality, all it means is that the fan will run constantly instead of spinning up which it reaches the warning threshold, even when the thing is relatively cool).

I do not want to be stuck in a whirring fan hell again, so I don't want to apply the update if there's some other reason for the constant sleeping.

Disabling ACPI would be acceptible, but I'd like to keep my options open.
