sashiana
Ok, after many many reinstalls learning some command line *from doing it over and over* and a lot of headaches. I can not figure your why my titan drivers aren't working. I'm using the download directly from the main person's website. I input all the command lines correctly and delete the extensions kext and cache. Then reboot. after several failures of it freezing during the startup i finally get it to correctly work. But i do not have the option to change my resolution nor do i have the qe 3d stuff that it promises. I have read through this and many many other forums and cannot seem to find people with my setup nor the solution to my problem so hopefully some kind soul will help me out. My system specs are a asus a8nsli deluxe motherboard with 2 nvidia 6800xt's I have them with the sli bridge *about to take one out and see if that helps but i read that it doesnt matter osx will just see one, it's worth a shot* the 6800xt's have 256mb ram not the 512 version, Prosessor is the athlon x2 3800+ and 2 gigs of ram. everything is working properly even my sata *got that working from these forums too, thanks to who wrote the fix for that* I just can't get my graphics card to have that quartz thing, I need it to run shake. Only reason i want mac os x is for shake, and although i am going to buy a mac i am waiting for leopard to come out so i can save a bit of money. Everytime i installed before i finally got it not to freeze it would say that it found the graphics card and then starting up the startup application and freeze. I used the natit installer as well, but can not get that to work at all. And yes, i am using the real 10.4.8 not the update. I have tried this with the 10.4.8 patched and non patch dvd and i still cant get it to work. after all that mumbling i think i'm going to go put my wrist in ice. thanks for the help, and i hope i dont get flammed to much. Edit yes i double checked and i have the 8.8.1 kernel. thanks alot Edited December 20, 2006 by sashiana Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36338-titan-help-please/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
I read about someone with 2 cards having problems. Take one out and get that working, then try to add the 2nd card. You might have to add your device id to GeForce.kext, NVDAResman.kext and NVDANV40Hal.kext Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36338-titan-help-please/#findComment-258502 Share on other sites

Rammjet
You may have to set vendor id and device id in Titan.kext. It is currently set up to use all vendors but only device id's 0300 - 03FF. Some of the 6000 series cards have different device ids. sashiana
ok, i have checked titan.kext and it does have my vendor, i'm not sure what to change on the other files mentioned above, I took out one sli card, still have same problem, I also got natit to install and it finds my card fine, the it does the starting startup application, then says something about no airport driver and freezes, I would say the airport driver is the problem but i uninstalled natit and am typeing right now on osx, I am just so confused. Are there any links you guys know about that will point in in how to edit the plist on the nv files? or geforce files, Also my id is the same id the guy that built titan has. Thanks for all the help so far guys, Can't wait to get shake working. sashiana
You probably didnt install them like i did, go into your cd and it's in system installation packages and install nv40.pkg I edited the nv files like you said, i did it in text editor and saved them the desktop then overwrote the originals and repaired permissions, about to reinstall titan, wish me luck and thanks alot Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/36338-titan-help-please/#findComment-258547 Share on other sites

Rammjet
Titan is only set up for device id's in the range of 0300 - 03FF. If your device id is not in that range (like most 6xxx series cards), you need to modify Titan as well. sashiana
my device id is 0x003c and is in there, trust me i've double checked. There is a multipack download someone on another forum topic posted about a big pack that even has the nv files and drivers needed, downloaded that, changed all the info i needed to in them, and repaired permissions. Rebooted, and it did something i've never seen before, it said nvdan40hal.kext loaded, so it actually loaded the driver, finally, but frooze. Anyother ideas? sashiana
Ok, so I installed that titan driver pack listed on the other forum like i said, except the titan.kext, so all the nv drivers are in there with my correct device id, i double checked again. Then i installed natit and repaired permisisons. Then i rebooted, it found my device id, loaded the driver, screen goes black, no freeze, monitor shuts off, then after a few moments comes back on and nothing.......... try to boot with -x nothing, uninstall natit, reboot, nothing, have to uninstall all my nv drivers and geforce.kext and am back at square one again, i can't believe this is so hard, time to go crawl up into a ball and cry. Rammjet
my device id is 0x003c and is in there, trust me i've double checkedI was just studying this last night. I just now downloaded a fresh Titan.kext from Omni's site. Here is the device/vendor id string: <key>IOPCIClassMatch</key> <string>0x03000000&0xff000000</string> The green characters correspond to the device id and the red characters to the vendor id. On the right side is a pattern. In the pattern, an "f" means that the character in that spot cannot change. A "0" means the character can range from "0" to "F" (hex). Since the vendor id (red) is all zero's on the left and all zero's on the right, then the acceptable range for vendor ids is "0000" to "FFFF", or in other words, any vendor is acceptable instead of just Nvidia which is vendor id "10DE". The device id (green) starts with "03" and the pattern is "ff", so these are not allowed to change. The "00" after that have a pattern that is also "00" so they can range from "00" to "FF". That means the acceptable device id range is "0300" to "03FF" (hex). If your device id is 003C (which is a MCP04 USB Controller), then it isn't in there and shouldn't be since it is a USB device. This means you made a typo, so I don't really know what your device id is. On a side note, having the Titan.kext set to use any vendor id is kind of dangerous. If you have another device with a device id in the range of "0300" to "03FF", then the Titan.kext might try to bind to that device and create a kernel panic. The vendor id in Titan.kext should be set to "10DE" so that it only binds to an Nvidia device. And the device id should be set to the correct value if not in the range of "0300" to "03FF" which is the typical range for 5xxx cards. sashiana
Type: Display Bus: PCIe VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: NVIDIA (0x10de) Device ID: 0x00c3 Revision ID: 0x00a2 Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Not Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Not Supported That's what it says when i go into about this mac and more info, device id is 0x00c3, if i use the natit and view what it has for information it's allready in there as the 6800 xt and if i use the custom titan install package someone made it has it in there too, I just don't understand why i cant get this to work. axelieus
I'm not trying to hijack the thread, but thought I'd post as well, as my problems are very similar to yours. I have a laptop (Dell Inspiron 9300) with an nVidia GeForce Go 6800. Device ID is 0x00c8 and Vendor is standard. I installed the Accelerated nVidia kexts off of demonoid, and also build my own intall kit. I edited the proper kexts and tried Titan and Natit. What happens for me is I can boot in safe mode just fine. I can change resolutions and everything. No CI/QE though. When I try to boot normally, I get a black screen with the cursor visible and nothing else. As it's booting it (in safe mode as well as normal) It loads NVDANV40Hal fine, then Titan says it found a GeForce Go 6800 then I get the following 2 lines NVDA::Start(Vid) <1> NVDA::Start(Vid) <1> failed As I said I get the same in Safe or normal boot, but I can use OSX in safe mode but not Normal. It doesn't lock up, cause I can see the cursor move and I can shut down normally as well. I'm running JAS 1.4.6 upgraded to 10.4.8 with the JAS combo SSE2/Official 10.4.8 hybrid and am running the Semthex 8.8.1 beta 9 kernel. Any thoughts? Thanks!!
