Lost-Entrepreneur439
Yes, I am aware this is a terrible GPU and I should get something else, but I like having my computers with their stock hardware. I recently got an OptiPlex 780 with a Radeon HD 5450, Dortania's GPU Buyers Guide says the 5450 is supported natively, but when I installed HS, no acceleration at all, GPU just came up as "Display 5 MB", display was stuck at 1024x768, tearing and no transparency. I did some Googling, and things about this card seem to be very mixed, some people say it works natively, other people say you need to bring back kexts from Sierra, some say you need spoofing, others just say you need to go back to Sierra. Can someone please give me clear info about this card? If I need to replace kexts or do root patching in any form, then I'd rather not; I'd rather just go back to the last version with native support. Device ID is 68F9. Lost-Entrepreneur439
Update: Using some bits from a goldfish64 EFI on GitHub, I managed to get acceleration on Sierra, however High Sierra just gives me a black screen after verbose once it's installed (the recovery works fine, however). deeveedee
@Lost-Entrepreneur439 You might get more responses if you post your EFI (and if you can't upload it because of its size, post a link to it). Note that some offered assistance to you in your previous thread here and you never responded. Good luck. Here's my EFI: https://files.catbox.moe/0i9li2.7z (catbox is my preferred place to upload stuff, lmk if you would rather a different site) SMBIOS info is removed from that EFI, but I'm using an iMac10,1 SMBIOS. Slice
HD5450 works up to Sierra. As far as I remember It requires replacement four graphics files from previous system. In ElCapitan it works ab ovo. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/362930-radeon-hd-5450-acceleration-possible-in-high-sierra/#findComment-2851547 Share on other sites
deeveedee
@Lost-Entrepreneur439 Have you seen this? Also, search for '[Solved] Enabling ATI Radeon HD 5450 in HS' to find a related thread over at TonyMacx86. Why don't you use the thread as reference then? Whether you use OpenCore or Clover I don't think it matters. 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/362930-radeon-hd-5450-acceleration-possible-in-high-sierra/#findComment-2851617 Share on other sites

I suggest to use the thread but It's up to you to decide. You not need to use the EFI just open the config 5450.plist then you will see what is need for the ATI 5450 Good luck to inject ATI 5450 with OC Edited July 3 by chris1111 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/362930-radeon-hd-5450-acceleration-possible-in-high-sierra/#findComment-2851621 Share on other sites
Lost-Entrepreneur439
I ended up just doing the "reinstall the Sierra kexts" strategy, it wasn't what I wanted to do, but it was the only way I could get accel to work.
