I've installed from the JaS 10.4.6 DVD, using VMware to put OS X on a 14GB primary partition on my primary IDE drive. I used VMware and installed from a virtual DVD drive because my physical DVD drive is very dodgy (always has been). The install went off without a hitch (once I managed to get the Disk Utility to Erase the partition as HFS+ Journaled), but now when I boot, all I get is the grey apple, forever. I want to boot in verbose mode (-v) to figure out what's going on, but I can't figure out how.

I'm using GRUB as my bootloader, since I already had a dual-boot setup with Ubuntu Dapper. When I boot OSx86 with GRUB, it just says 'Loading Darwin' then goes to the grey apple and stays there. I don't seem to get a chance to set boot options. Is there a way I can use switches like -v with GRUB? If not, how can I use switches like -v? Do I have to edit com.apple.Boot.plist, and if so, what's the best way to get the HFS+ formatted drive mounted as writeable so I can edit it?

Thanks, that worked, after the few tries it took me to discover that "press F8 after you select OSX" meant "Press F8 right after you select OSX, like, seriously, don't wait for anything, press Enter and then press F8 immediately".

Now I just have to figure out what this "USBF <something> "start OHCI controller will unload across sleep" error means...
