Introduction:

Many users struggle to get the Samsung/HP ProXpress C2680FX working on modern macOS/iOS versions. Since HP acquired Samsung’s printer division, official macOS drivers were discontinued, macOS/iOS no longer properly implement the printer, and features like duplex printing and scanning often fail.

This guide shows how to print, scan, and use AirPrint on iOS, without relying on outdated Samsung drivers – tested on macOS 15/26 and iOS 18/26.

I.) Setting up the Printer on macOS 26

  1. Connect your C2680FX via LAN or Wi-Fi.

  2. Open System Settings → Printers & Scanners → + → Add Printer.

  3. Click on the IP tab to add the printer via its network address:

    • Address: e.g., 192.168.178.194

    • Protocol: Internet Printing Protocol - IPP

    • Queue: Leave empty → macOS automatically creates a default queue

    • Name/Location: Optional, e.g., Location/C2680FX

  4. Select Generic PostScript Printer as the driver:

    • Fully supports PDF → PostScript conversion internally

    • Duplex (double-sided) printing works

    • Toner levels displayed correctly

 Tips:

  • Using the IP ensures a stable network connection.

  • Generic PostScript is stable, doesn’t rely on old Samsung/HP kexts, and supports duplex reliably.

II.) Scanning

  • Use VueScan 9.8.44 → detects the C2680FX reliably over USB or network.
  • Download link: VueScan 9.8.44 for Mac
  • Works with current macOS versions, independent of Samsung scan drivers.
  • Optional: Create scan profiles in VueScan for multi-page PDFs or specific color/resolution settings.

III.) Enabling AirPrint for iPhone/iPad under (iOS 18/26)

Even though the printer isn’t natively AirPrint-compatible, you can make it discoverable via macOS:

1.) Share the printer in macOS:

  • System Settings → Printers & Scanners → Select C2680FX → Share this printer → Everyone can print

2.) Install AirPrint Bridge (open-source):

# Clone the repository
git clone https://github.com/sapireli/AirPrint_Bridge.git
cd AirPrint_Bridge

# Make the script executable
chmod +x airprint_bridge.sh

# Optional test
sudo ./airprint_bridge.sh -t

# Install as system service for automatic startup
sudo ./airprint_bridge.sh -i

# Uninstall as system service for automatic startup
sudo ./airprint_bridge.sh -u
  • This announces your printer as an AirPrint device to the network
  • Duplex printing works immediately from iPhone/iPad

Result: iPhone/iPad see the printer like a native AirPrint device, full duplex included.

IV.) Summary & Key Advantages

  • Printing: Generic PostScript   stable, duplex-capable, PDF-friendly
  • Scanning: VueScan 9.8.44     fully functional, network or USB
  • iOS AirPrint: AirPrint Bridge   printer discoverable by iPhone/iPad
  • System: clean no outdated Samsung/HP kexts

Extra tips:

  • Keep the Mac awake if you frequently print from iOS, or enable sleep proxy in macOS.
  • Use VueScan profiles for consistent scan output.
  • Duplex and toner levels work out-of-the-box without Samsung software.

Conclusion:

Even years after HP acquired Samsung’s printer division, the ProXpress C2680FX can be fully functional on modern macOS and iOS:

  • Print PDF, duplex, monitor toner levels
  • Scan reliably via VueScan 9.8.44
  • AirPrint for iPhone/iPad in iOS 18/26

This setup keeps alive an 8-year-old splendid multi function color laser printer, now again fully compatible with modern Apple devices without relying on unsupported Samsung/HP drivers.
