InfiniteBSOD
Hello, Breaking this out in a dedicated post / thread. Desktop computer: HP EliteDesk 800 G5 Desktop Mini PC (w. 3* DP; 2* DP natively and 1* DP through HP Flex IO) Type of connection PC > Monitor: Displayport (inserted into the HP Flex IO DP-port) to HDMI-cable (inserted into my monitor). Using this cable (link to Amazon). Monitor: Curved Gaming Monitor QD OLED gaming monitor 34M2C8600/00 | Evnia CPU: Intel i5-9500T [COFFEE LAKE] GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 630 MBOT: HP 8595 motherboard (Q370 chipset) RAM: 16GB RAM (2* 8GB C4-21300 DDR4 SDRAM Samsung M471A1K43CB1-CTD) SSD: SAMSUNG MZVLB256HAHQ-000H1 [256GB, NVME M.2 SSD] Western Digital Black SN850X 1TB NVME SSD WIFI: Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200. VEN_8086&DEV_2723 BT: Integrated with "AX200" above? VID_8087&PID_0029 BIOS: R21 Ver. 02.22.00 I am following this guide (see below) and these are my results so far. PROCESS 1. Made the necessary adjustments of my BIOS-settings as specified in the guide - "HP EliteDesk 800 G4 Mini BIOS Configuration" - here. 2. I used my MBA to download Sequoia and create a USB-installer using Apples official documentation here. 3. I downloaded the latest EFI - "OC1.0.4-EFI-R02" - here. 4. Used "MountEFI" to expose the "EFI"-partition and then copied the "EFI"-folder to that partition. 5. I used "GenSMBIOS" and used "Macmini8,1" as my model to generate necessary information (serial, board serial etc.) and entered those details into "config.plist". Except for adding the information from "GenSMBIOS" I keep "config.plist" exactly as it is. 6. When booting with my newly created USB-drive and I get to OCs boot-selection I select "Reset NVRAM" > Computer reboots 7. After the reboot I select "Install mac OS X (External)" PROBLEM I see the Apple-logo and the progress bar. The progress bar fills until it reaches around 15% and my monitor then goes purple for around 1 sec and then goes black. My monitor looses connection to my EliteDesk (Source: HDMI 1) and doesn't show any output. The screen is black and my monitor automatically switches to an active input (I usually have my main desktop running which uses Source: Displayport). I have to do a "hard-shutdown" by holding the power-button on my EliteDesk until it shuts down or pull the power-cord. After doing that my EliteDesk boots as normal but the problem I detailed above remains. MONITOR My monitor has 1x DP which I already use with my main desktop so I would prefer to keep it connected using my monitors only DP-input. So I guess my only options are either: * Displayport to HDMI-cable (which I already have and trying to get to work) * Active Displayport to HDMI adapter; I just bought an adapter (link to Amazon) and will try this and report back. TROUBLESHOOTING I will try my Active Displayport to HDMI-adapter when I receive it and also try all the Displayport-connections on my EliteDesk, currently the only one (of three in total) that actually gives output / works is the one that is through the "HP FlexIO"-card. When I have tried above I will try and delve down into patch iGPU framebuffer as mentioned here since I then would have both my "DP to HDMI"-cable and a "Active Displayport to HDMI-adapter". Will update. Best Regards Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/360993-hp-elitedesk-800-g5-dm-with-philips-34m2c8600/ Share on other sites
deeveedee
@InfiniteBSOD Good to know that you already have a DP->DP cable that you're using with your "main desktop." Have you tried to test it with your EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini just to see if it works? Have you tried the DP->HDMI adapter with your "main desktop?" Just a couple of observations: It appears to me that you have the necessary combinations of cables/adapters to test options before buying any more hardware. Temporarily moving the DP->DP cable from your main desktop to your EliteDesk Mini should be one of your test cases. I'm concerned that you see no output from the main DP ports (not flexIO port). Since you plan to multiboot macOS, Linux and Windows, have you first tested your EliteDesk with Windows (its natively supported OS) to be sure the EliteDesk hardware works before attempting macOS? Ultiimately, you need to choose the test strategy that works best for you, but this is what I would do Install Windows 10 or 11 on your EliteDesk 800 G5 Mini and test all video ports with your DP->DP cable and the DP port on your display. If you find any hardware problems, they're not going to be fixed by macOS. After you confirm that your EliteDesk Mini hardware is good, test the DP->HDMI adapter on your main desktop. If the DP->HDMI adapter works on your main desktop, use the DP->DP with your EliteDesk. You'll want to change your DeviceProperties to the appropriate patches for 3 DP ports. ird
+1 to deeveedee’s suggestions. If you don’t want to install Windows 11, you can also try creating a Linux Live USB and boot from it to test onboard DP ports. Choose a popular distribution like Fedora, Ubuntu, Linux Mint etc. that includes drivers and firmware for onboard Intel iGPU. EDIT: @InfiniteBSOD One more question: when you say only the flexio DP port works, did you mean booting in to macOS or even otherwise? For e.g., can you boot into BIOS with the DP cable connected to one of the other onboard DP ports? That test should be enough to determine first level if there is an obvious HW fault. And I agree with deeveedee. For these tests, ditch the DP-HDMI adapter and connect your monitor directly with DP-DP cable for the time being. I just wanted to follow up and report that my DP-HDMI adapter worked! I got it working and writing this right now on my Hackintosh! Thank you guys so so so so much! Appreciate it tons! I used this adapter if someone else comes across this: Manufacturer / Brand: Benfei Item model number: 000288grey ASIN: B07ZNNRYFL Link (Amazon SE): https://www.amazon.se/-/en/dp/B07ZNNRYFL The reason I wanted to try this adapter first before trying an actual DP-DP connection etc. is that I have all my cables fitted with velcro and the cables goes "inside" my monitor-stands arm so would be somewhat of a hassle. Would have definitely tried it if this hadn't worked though. Once again, thank you both so much. Really appreciate the help. 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/360993-hp-elitedesk-800-g5-dm-with-philips-34m2c8600/#findComment-2832233 Share on other sites
