Just install a Mac OSX Tiger.

Install correct but i have minor problems.

Video.

I have a ATI Radeon X1600 and Samsung SyncMaster 753DFX but OSX only show 1024x768x32 as valid video mode. If i add

boot -v "Graphics Mode" = "1280x1024x32" OSX accept and load it perfect, checking video modes , OSX now show only 1280x1024x32 as

valid mode.

Problem , if i boot my machine and dont add "Graphics Mode" to startup line OSX load 1024x768 mode again. How i mantain 1280x1024 without "Graphics Mode" option ?

Network.

This is weird , first time it recognize ip address and i was able to access internet. Several minutes later it lost connection , i suppose its about

dhcp renew problem. When i try to renew it , it show an invalid ip address. I power down my cable modem and... nothing happens. if i shutdown

machine and cable modem and start up them again it accept a valid ip and i was able to acess internet for 15 minutes i think and problem returns (its Dhcp renew for sure but i dont know how to fix it) .

My NIC is a 3com XL Etherlink.

Firewall

I enable it but how i setup rules for it ? Does it have a configuration file ? or i need to add rules one by one through interface ?

Sound

Its not that important but hey Fedora and FreeBSD work so its a little bit frustrating if OSX didnt. Anyway its an onboard sound chip AC97 , my motherboard is an old Intel 850MD and its basically compatible to near every linux-BSD flavor you can imagine (Except OSX :_( ) any tips please keep in mind i am newcomer when dealing with MACOSX so maybe i didnt do any configuration i suppose to do.

Stupid Question

There is an Xterm for MacOSX ? Where ?

Stupid Question 2

Can i use ports of Darwin with MacOSX ?

Stupid Question 3

Can i recompile the kernel ?

Video - follow Video link in my signature. You want the Boris method or the installer method.

Network - try setting the IP manually. Select Manually with DHCP and enter an IP address that the router would normally issue. Press <Enter> and see if it finds the router and fills in the mask and gateway values for you. Also, follow Ethernet link in my signature.

Firewall: read this: http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/mac/2005...5/firewall.html

Also, go here to find utilities to help: http://www.pure-mac.com/para.html

Sound: follow the Azalia link in my signature. Go to bottom of the guide and follow the Appendix to get the 2 sets of vendor and device ids you need. Then try the guide at the top of the page

Xterm: OSX has a Terminal program in the Utilities folder. In Finder -> Go menu -> Utilities

Also checkout this: http://www.pure-mac.com/remote.html

DarwinPorts - yes you can use them. Be sure you installed X11 during the installation of OSX

Kernel - yes, you can, but it is not necessary like in Linux. And much more difficult.
