reverendjj
I have an installation of El Capitan and recently the the function of drag and drop will not function properly. If you click on a file and try to move it to another location the file will will move with the mouse but will not drop to the location selected. The only way to get out of this is to hit the escape key. The file will not move or be copied. Thanks. Slice
Is it USB mouse or some kind of trackpad with some kind of third party driver? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355024-mouse-issues/#findComment-2798609 Share on other sites

reverendjj
This is just a generic two button w/scroll wheel USB 2.0 mouse. Used to work just fine but then started acting that way. reverendjj
More strange things seem to be happening. While on any given web site using Firefox, often times the cursor will change from an arrow or a hand to that which you may find while using Google Earth. Such as this: or this: <--> Also, when trying to rearrange tabs in a browser the mouse will capture the tab but not release it when I drag it to a new location. Sometimes it will not even allow me to move it at all. When it does all these crazy things, the only way out is to hit the Esc key. Now in Excel, I get the same behavior with the icons and sometimes it will randomly select a field or a series of fields and to get out of that I have to use the Esc key as well. I can't figure it out. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355024-mouse-issues/#findComment-2798694 Share on other sites
Avery B
Are you sure the buttons on the mouse aren't having issues? This doesn't really sound like a macOS or configuration issue, and more like (potential) hardware issue. Probably worth trying on another computer to double check. I've booted into Mavericks and both mice I've tested work fine with that system. So, I don't believe it's a hardware issue. Slice
Once upon a time I saw a mouse being not compatible with macOS. Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355024-mouse-issues/#findComment-2798725 Share on other sites

For instance if you hover your mouse over a few icons in the dock, does it seems like the name on the item you hover over moves to the next item etc? I think I have the issue too sometime, and I think it is more related to WindowSever or similar process. Suddenly I cannot drop objects that I move, cannot throw them in the bin, and dock seems to not update properly. When that happens, only a restart will solve the issue. It is weird. I am using Ventura, so perhaps we have different issues. But I see it happen on more than 1 version of macOS. reverendjj
The only thing I find funky with the dock is that I cannot re-organize items in the dock. Similar to the problem with re-organizing tabs in a browser. reverendjj
I just tried that. New system install made no difference. Any other thoughts? Quote Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/355024-mouse-issues/#findComment-2798881 Share on other sites

reverendjj
If you read my posts you will see I have already tried a different mouse. Thanks anyhow. reverendjj
Well, get this. I found another mouse in the garage and hooked it up and it seems to have solved my issue(for now) but the caveat is that I need to have the other mouse connected to a usb port. If they are both not connected, I still have the issue. WTF? I think there is a computer definition mix-up that I set in clover configurator. All else seems to work well.
