Declan.™
Hey guys, Firstly can I say sorry if this is not the correct forum but it's the one I could find. I have got a copy of Mac OS X 10.4.6 JaS Install DVD and have tried to install it on my Acer laptop. I have enabled -v mode and it's gave me some weird errors that I don't have a clue what it's talking about. The laptop specs are: AMD Turion 64 X2 1GB RAM ATI Radeon XPress 1100 120GB HDD I wasn't wanting to multi boot or anything just a plain OS X laptop. I hope someone can point me in the right direction with the error messages. I have included a screenshot of the whole sequance. The last line reads "Still waiting for root device." Thanks in advance for any help. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35314-acer-5102wlmi-installation-problems/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Is the problem with the initial boot of the DVD or after you have installed? Looks like after installation. What packages did you choose in the Customize window during installation: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ost&id=4249 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35314-acer-5102wlmi-installation-problems/#findComment-250905 Share on other sites
Declan.™
Nope this is when I try to boot from the CD for the first time. I didn't even get to the choosing packages or anything. Declan.™
Anybody? My processor has SSE3 does this mean I can use the JaS 10.4.8 SSE3 Intel Only DVD. Thanks for the help so far. Rammjet
You have AMD. Can't use a 10.4.8 "Intel Only" release. There is an AMD release though. Read the 10.4.8 link in my signature. Meanwhile, see if you can go to BIOS and set USB to legacy or set if off if you have PS2 keyboard and mouse. When starting the installation, instead of "press any key to start installation", go and press F8. At the prompt, type: -v cpus=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35314-acer-5102wlmi-installation-problems/#findComment-251378 Share on other sites
Declan.™
Ok thanks for the help. I am just going to restart to try the tips you gave about the bios and prompt. Don't know if this helps but I managed to get the Mac OS X 10.4.6 JaS Install DVD working under VMware. Rammjet
You can use VMWare to install to your hard drive for booting natively if the DVD install doesn't work: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11314 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35314-acer-5102wlmi-installation-problems/#findComment-251445 Share on other sites
Declan.™
Well that wasn't successful the DVD still did not work and my bios did not seem to have any such options. Just noticed it was very very basic. Got 3 lines of "Waiting for root device" after I had left it for a while. I am going to take a look at that VMware guide and hopefully that will help or do you think its better to use a later AMD version. Edit: I have looked at the guide and I see that it's aimed at a computer with 2 physical HDD's as this is a laptop I only have one. Will it still work if I use partitions. Rammjet
Yes, partitions are fine. Substitute the appropriate settings for partitions. Edit: maybe in your slim BIOS settings, there is one to turn off PC Card/PCMCIA/Cardbus slot? Declan.™
Nope no option like that in the BIOS. I'm very dissapointed with the BIOS to be honest but theres nothing I can do. I am going to do a fresh install of XP with a 5GB or so partition and leave the rest. Boot into XP VMware install the OS X and then delete the XP partition so its the Mac only. Thanks ever so much for all the help you have provided. Rammjet
Might as well leave the Windows partition. It cannot be merged into the OSX partition (without a 2nd hard drive) and you will mess things up deleting it. Just make it small or format it to HFS after installation and use it as a DATA partition.
