global_dev
using Pioneer DVDRW A107 At first, I was playing, not importing, CD tracks in latest iTunes and I noticed an odd burning smell coming from the computer. Actually coming directly from the optical unit listed above. Same thing happened when i imported a different CD into iTunes. took out the disk and it smelled for about 10 seconds of burning plastic, then dissipated. no lingering smell in the optical drive. I thought maybe it was the quality of CD, but I never noticed this before in XP MCE (same drive). Anyone have a possible explanation. I thought maybe the controller in the optical unit was not properly working. Good enough to read CDs and DVDs. This hadn't happened prior when watching DVDs via DVD player ( I didn't attempt this DVD play again though to see if it actually did smell like burning) maybe it was the read speed difference? McSkywalker
Was that a CD-R? Because the new ones smell bad sometimes. Especially when they're stacked together. global_dev
It was a pressed CD, bought from a music shop. I want to say it was a 100% legit pressed CD. Who pressed it I don't know since it is a non US based music label, but the operation was at least good enough to be considered not a mom&pop home job. Like I said though this was like burning plastic, not new car smell. strange, I don't care much what happens to the drive, but I'd like to keep it from mangling my media.
