Ok, mounted the Deadmoo image using dd- and it worked fine, except no network card, Itunes and other app's wouldn't work and only a 6gb partition. So I decided to fix that

Acquired the Generic Install DVD, burned it as an ISO and went to install. Booted from DVD perfectly, started install up until it asked for destination drive. My hard drive isn't showing up. So went into disk utilities and it is saying that my drive cannot be mounted, though it does show up in disk utilities.

Anyone have an ideal what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Bose

Was your deadmoo install still on the disk, when you tried to run the installer?

Tell us about how your disk is partitioned, and what filesystems/OSes (if any) are on it.

The first time it still had Deadmoo on it, was an 80gb drive, 6gb for deadmoo and the rest was 'dead/unused' space.

Second time was on an old 10gb drive, think it may have had an old Win2K install.

My 80gb is now coming back with 'No active partition' in Partition magic, I may have fried that one well and good. Then again, it 3 or 4 years old so not a huge deal.

Strange that Deadmoo couldn't be seen from Disk Utility, since it should have been an HFS+ partition.

That you had trouble with two different disks, suggest something is faulty with the Install DVD.

Still, you might try Disk Utility -> Erase to erase and reformat one of the disks, whichever (if any) you feel comfortable trashing. See if that would get the disk recognized by the installer.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Will try that tonight. Will also check all of my settings, see if I missed something. Maybe try 'acquiring' the DVD again, though it took a week the first time...

If anyone else has an idea, throw it my way, please.

Please, ignore this thread and any other time I post looking for help just tell me to pay attention.

To recap: Would start installing from DVD, get to destination selection and nothing there. Open disk utilities and would not let me erase....free space!!

That's right, I was hitting erase free space on drive instead of erase drive. Two nights of fighting, finally realized I am an idiot. Hit the erase button, happily formatted my 80gb drive and is busy installing as we speak.

Guess what I am say, I was the Id10t error this time.

My apologies for looking for help when not needed. Will post when finished.

Thanks
