splash1
Hi, i accidently installed the Apple Combo Update 10.4.8 to my running Mac OS X 10.4.6 (JAS). Now its allways rebooting before i get to the login screen. Is there a possibility to rescue the system without reinstalling? I don't want to reinstall because the system was quite well configured. I have Windows XP running on another partition maybe this can help? thanks for help Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/35125-need-help-with-1048/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
The following has been successfui for some people: Save out a copy of your Home directory, particularly the Library folder. Save out any kexts you modified in the /System/Library/Extensions folder Delete the Receipts inside the /Library/Receipts folder/ Reinstall using the 10.4.6 DVD but do not go to Disk Utility and erase anything. Just pick your OSX partition in the installation window and then go pick items in the Customize window. After installation, boot and get running. The installer should not have affected your personal files. Copy back over your Library folder (or Home folder, whichever) Copy back over your special kexts, repair the permissions in Terminal using "sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/(name-of-kext). Then delete the 2 Extensions cache files and reboot. If you have SSE3 processor, you can upgrade to 10.4.8 with the new kernel. Follow the 10.4.8 link in my signature.
