thrunner
@manifold_family Can you video stream from another location physically away from the Dreambox over the internet, outside of your router? and do remote programming and change channels? I am wondering if this can do what a Slingbox does. manifold_family
Did you try the X86 version? Hi, Yes I tried the x86 version of VLC but it was no joy. I have a feeling there may be a setting changed somewhere that may need changing but I couldn't find it. So I gave the PPC version a go and it works. I use the x86 version of VLC for DVD playback (which I renamed) and the PPC version for streaming the Satellite TV Video from the Dreambox across the wireless network through to the x86 PC. Theres some lag now and again,as the wireless conection fluctutates but its good enough for watching. I am sure a hardwire connection would be more consistent. I use the Dreambox as a way of getting TV to the PC instead of a TV Tuner (and the channels that cant normally be watched). I think it is similar in some ways to a slingbox but accesses a satellite signal via tuner (and controls a rotor box for the dish if you have one). I cant see why it cannot stream channels across internet if the connection is fast enough. I havent had a chance to try it to be honest, although if I reset my router to pick up the Dreambox as the DMZ it should do I would have thought. As far as programming, the dreambox is basically a linux box (PPC processor) with a satellite decoder built in and, more importantly, a 10/100 utp port. You can access the box through terminal and upload and download files and images (Dreambox operating System). Handy for installing softcams and keys for unlocking channels, or for resetting the motor settings on the dish, if you know where to go for that info. The box had a built in hard drive to, so its good as a spare filestore too. plenty of info on this site..... http://www.sat-industry.net/ Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/3508-vlc-works-fine-with-a-dreambox-7000s/#findComment-22211 Share on other sites
