bha
Hi! I tried to install JaS OSx86 10.4.7 yesterday, but i experienced a lot of freezes during the installation process. Sometimes only my mouse (touch pad) locked, but other times the whole system. I tried various boot options (-v platform=X86PC -r) but nothing helped. Specifications: Intel Core Duo 1.7Ghz 1 Gb ram 80 Gb disk Intel ICH7 chipset (I think) I tried several bios configurations with no luck. One time I was almost able to finish the installation however before the end it froze :censored2: If anyone would be so kind to tell me can cause the problem, please help. I'm new to mac, I use Ubuntu and Linux for years but no luck with MacOSX Thanks You! Cheers, Andras Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34985-hp-nx7400-core-duo-osx86-install/ Share on other sites
Rammjet
Try booting with cpus=1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34985-hp-nx7400-core-duo-osx86-install/#findComment-248358 Share on other sites
bha
Now installation worked (I used an usb mouse too, just in case...). But After startup it freezes in about a minute. No mouse, no keyboard USB does not help here. Maybe this needs some tweak only, just I don't know what. Rammjet
You need to enter cpus=1 at each boot. Or add it to your boot.plist so you don't have to type it everytime. Press F8 at boot and get to the OSX bootloader. When you boot OSX, first the screen turns black and then grey with a spinning icon. As soon as the screen turns black, start tapping the F8 key rapidly and repeatedly until a command prompt appears. You will see the bootloader. Type cpus=1 and <Enter> To put cpus=1 into boot.plist:. Boot into OSX. Edit the boot.plist file at "/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist" and edit the following: <key>Kernel Flags</key> <string> cpus=1 </string> You can edit the file by dragging it to the Desktop and editing it with TextEdit, then dragging it back, answering the 2 resulting dialogs - Authenticate and yes to replace, then followed by using Disk Utility to repair permissions on the OSX partition. Or you can do it via Terminal with this command: sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34985-hp-nx7400-core-duo-osx86-install/#findComment-248444 Share on other sites
bha
Thank You very much Rammjet! So this means, that I can not use the two cpu cores? Now System info shows it is a Core solo (altough it works fine) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34985-hp-nx7400-core-duo-osx86-install/#findComment-248450 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Some Intel Core Duo's exhibit stuttering and freezes (that usually resolve if you wait long enough). Disabling one of the cores seems to fix it. Babalooba
Hello! I'm thinking about installing OSX in my nx7400 but i currently work with Ubuntu Linux. Did you tried to install it with multiple boot in order to choose between different operating systems installed on the laptop? ptkhole
Has anyone got the pcmcia/cardbus to work on NX7400? An install guide on OSX86 suggests using iopcifamily.kext (10.4.4) and iopccardfamily.kext for TI cardbus, but I've had no luck...any suggestions? RS197768
Maybe a bit late. But i am typing this on my NX7400. The install i used is a leopard install (kalyway 10.5.2) I finally got working sound through a specially written adi driver. This one can be found on the forum here. I also got working Ethernet and Cardbus. USB mouse is also working. Other USB devices seem to have problems like memory sticks and USB harddisk. Still have to find out why? Wifi isn't working yet due to the not working intel chipset 3945. I know they are still working on a solution for the intel wireless drivers. But they seem to be a pain in the ass.
