Security Update 2021-007 breaks HD4000 GL Driver. How I fixed it…

Today I got notice that the latest Security Update for macOS Catalina (Securtiy Update 2021 -007) breaks the GL portion of the HD4000 Driver if I understand correctly. So certain Apps and Services which use this feature crash.

 

For example:

Street View crashes Firefox, in Safari just the process crashes: https://goo.gl/maps/eiiUCEBmLJZSeTwg9

It seems to affect com.apple.driver.AppleIntelHD4000GraphicsGLDriver

 

Unfortunately, I already installed this update on my Laptop, so I have no access to the old version.

 

Here's how I fixed it:

 

1. Deactivate Updates in System Settings > Software Update > Additional settings
2. Download macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (build 19H4) using ANYmacOS
3. Install it over existing install
4. Done. Don't install Security Update 2021-007!
5. Manually download and Install the 2021-006 Security Update

 

Maybe Apple will provide a fix. But I've read they won't since these Macs are "vintage" now…

 

UPDATE:

If you switch the update tree to Developer you can get a beta Version of Security Update 2021-008, but it doesn't fix the issue.

What if we install only AppleIntelHD4000GraphicsGLDriver from Security Update 2021-006?
