techbinge
I'm attempting to use the swap string en0 to en1 to get either my Ethernet or wireless to work, however once I have edited my NetworkInterfaces.plist in /library/preferences/systemconfiguration/, upon reboot the file has reverted. Is there a cached version of this file somewhere? Is there another way around this? I have a Dell E1705 w/ a Broadcom 440x ethernet chip and a Intel pro wireless 3945 ABG wireless nic. Any suggestions would be much appreciated!
Rammjet
Four things: The en0 -> en1 trick is only for wireless There is no wireless support for 3945 no matter what you do The en0 trick also involves looking below that entry and finding <integer>0</integer> and changing it to 1 (must do both changes to make it stay) Broadcom 440x old trick on this page: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34074
techbinge
Still no luck unfortunately. I pretty much tried everything I can I find. I did see a post from you though, Raamjet, about adding a device ID to a info file. Related? Whats so strange to me is that upon the first fresh install of 10.4.6 is worked no problems out of the box. Then after a restart no such luck. Upon the 2nd fresh install, I had no working internet at all. It seems that many others are getting this to work, I must be missing something. Or maybe its just a 10.4.8 update issue? Thanks for all the help!

Have you booted in verbose mode (-v) to see if there are any errors? Go to Terminal and type: sudo dmesg and look for errors. Have you properly repaired permissions after messing with kexts? Have you been deleting the kextcaches after messing with kexts? Investigate installing a Dell Truemobile 1390 or 1450 in place of your wireless card. NetworkInterfaces.plist is generated as OSX finds new networking hardware. Sometimes OSX on a Hackintosh accidentally calls the wireless en0 when that should be for wired ethernet. So, to get wireless working, might need to move wireless from en0 to en1. But not for wired ethernet which is supposed to be en0.
techbinge
RaamJet, thanks for all the help. So the end result was that the card was simply not on. Following some advice in other posts, I set my onboard NIC to be the first bootable device. From there, I hit escape on boot to stop it from loading. Once OSX is up, the card has been initialized and works. So long story short, I now have my Nvidia 7900 GS working and reliable ethernet. Rammjet, you were a lot of help. Without you I don't know that I would have had this wrapped up in a weekend. Thanks again!
