atomicchicken
Allo, i am still having issues with my keyboard (inspiron 2650) and was wondering if it could be the kext. i noticed that some have gotten it to work but they seem to be running 10.4.4 or .5 versions of osx86. i am currently running 10.4.6 JaS and have updated it to 10.4.8 JaS Combo intel SSE2. could my troubles be that im running a different appleps2controller.kext? are they all the same or different? if they are different, anybody know where i can get an older version? thanks!!! Rammjet
Older version might be in Apple 10.4.5 Intel update. Download it and open the .dmg image. Then open the .pkg using Pacifist (download from Charlessoft). Click on the little arrows beside System -> Library -> Extensions. Find the kext and click on it then go to the Pacifist tool bar and click on Install. Afterward, repair permissions and delete the Extensions.mkext and Extensions.kextcache files (in /System/Library) and then reboot.

The 10.4.4 update is NOT Intel, only PPC. Make sure your 10.4.5 update is Intel. If you want to go for 10.4.4, insert your OSX install DVD and let it mount on Desktop. Find: /System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg and open it with Pacifist. Find the kext and install.

Rammjet
Double click the .dmg file to mount the virtual disk. Inside you will find the installer.pkg. Use Pacifist to open the .pkg (not the .dmg)
atomicchicken
Rammjet, Ok, got it now but there doesnt seem to be an appleps2controller.kext in the extensions folder....ahhhh....one road block after another. so now i guess i gotta download osx86 10.4.4 and do what you recommended right? do you think an older version of kext is the right course of action? am i going about this the wrong way? Cheers!!
Rammjet
No, read my previous post #4 above. You can get 10.4.4 from any OSX install DVD. Old kext may or may not help, probably won't hurt.
atomicchicken
Rammjet, Well..gonna have to "borrow" a 10.4.4 disk and might take some time. hopefully this will work. really wonder how these other ppl got theres working...real mystery...oh well. gotta be optimistic!!! Rammjet
No - ANY install DVD - 10.4.5, 10.4.6, 10.4.7 and all but one of the 10.4.8 are built on top of 10.4.4. Just get the kext out of Essentials.pkg as I detailed in post #4. The install DVD installs a base of 10.4.4 then uses a Combo update (remember the Customize window?) to modify that base to the final version. atomicchicken
Rammjet, sorry i seem to have misunderstood. just to be clear, i can use my 10.4.6 JaS disk and extract the file? the one on my 10.4.6 disk is basically the 10.4.4 kext? Rammjet
Looks like the only source on the DVD is in the Combo update. But even on my 10.4.6 DVD and the latest JaS 10.4.8 DVD, they are all v1.
