slim
Whats going on everyone, First off, i'd like to say that this site rocks. Im new to macs and find myself addicted to this site. Anywho, i have a problem and was wondering if someone could lend a helping hand. I recently purchased a macbook 2ghz intel core duo w/ 1 GB Ram from a friend of a friend. Now this person left the country and i have no way of getting in contact with him. The problem is the person had a password on his MAC. Regardless, i wanted to format the thing immediately, but every version of OS X i get, it tells me its not the right version. When i try to install OS X 10.4 it says 'MAC OS X 10.4 cannot be installed on this machine' Then i tried installing OS X86 and that didn't work either. I read later that OS X86 is strictly for PCs wanting to run MAC. Not sure if thats true or not. Either way, when i did try to install that version, i rebooted, held C and got to a black screen with a white flashing cursor. I waited for over 10 mins and nothing happened. Regardless, can someone PLEASE tell me what version of OS X i need to get my hands on so that i can reformat this thing???? bofors
I think you might have to use a MacBook "restore" disk. If you didn't get one with the MacBook, I would just try to find someone who does and copy theirs. BTW, I think there is also a "password" reset utility you can get at by booting off an Intel Mac restorel disk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34606-help/#findComment-245430 Share on other sites
alloutmacstoday
there are also ways to find the password so you will know it and can change it. you use terminal, but i dont knw exactly how, but if anyone else does, great Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/34606-help/#findComment-245462 Share on other sites
Rammjet
Logon password is in the keychain database and is 256 bit encrypted. But wiping the drive and reinstalling will fix that. Just find the restore disk. Can also impose a hardware password in EFI. That would be harder to fix.
